    I have used Cubase, Reason seriously and alot of other for fun. For me nothing come close of Ableton Live. Even tho when you master your program you can make a beat pretty fast, Live is surely the simplest and the fastest powerful program around. And I'm not talking in an amateurish garageband...

    A question about creating music w/ ableton live 4.0

    I only used Live4. I used cubase and reason and some other progs but live is the simplest, fastest yet more powerfull of the gang (for what I do with it tho, making beats not recording or mixing or...). I use alot the free vst at http://www.vst-mda.com

    a firewire hub is cool but keep in mind that you can buy wireless keyboard and mouse (so no usb use) and you can chain firewire devices (I would not recommand chaining like 4-5 devices but 2 is ok).

    It's all depend what she got really, is an old imac G3 or is it the new imac G5? Saying you got an imac is like saying you got a compaq... What is the processor and how much ram? If you don't have a clue, check "about this mac" in the finder menu. 2 years ago, I tried an ibook and a powerbook...

    Ableton Live for recording vocals

    I don't see why you should change program shwaz. I'm a big Live user but for recording there don't seem to be a real avantage to live except that all my beat are made in live... So if your cool with cool edit and you don't make beats with live, I don't see why switching.
