Make sure to layer snares and kick drums for a fatter sound. Try an analogue kick from say, a jazz kit, then fatten it with a 909 kick. Throw more layers until you are satisfied. Do the same for snares. -

Cubase SX lets you record audio. Why would you not use that? Perhaps I don't properly understand your question??? If you say you use Cubase SX for MIDI, why wouldn't you record audio into Cubase SX as well (if you own it)? It doesn't make sense. The MBOX is hyped far too much. -
