I also have nothing against boombap but I don't understand why people here underrate trap beats. I'm politely asking for some clairification because I'm getting lost here for real and I would really like to get a clear perspective on it.

"It sounds like most people are copying the same youtube tutorial or something"- I agree with that point that most of trap beats sound similar and that in most cases they are simple. These are facts. However, if you look at boom bap and for example you go to YouTube and search oldschool hip hop playlist these things also sound the same in most cases. Most of them are based on samples, most of them use similar drum patterns etc. The same goes with other music genres. If you google thrash metal most of the stuff will sound like Slayer or Megadeth copies. I think it's quite unavoidable.

So this is why I cannot comprehend why people only point out that trap beats are that bad but they don't see certain things in hiphop/boombap/oldschool etc?

I would be very grateful for some clarification here because I would really love to get your perspective on that. What does trap have to sound like in order to be acceptable for you? I'm really curious.

Just sound individual and not the same.

Like i said... i aint got anything about people making/posting trap. But it sounds like the same track.

Like say me, arvin and primz were making Scott Storch beats... but not only was we doing that... we copying the exact same one beat. That's what it almost sounds like to me personally.

For example... first week or two i come back i hear some trap beats i thought oh wow good beat.

Over next few week im seeing the exact same beat like multiple times in one battle. Not just from the one person.

Like i said it is what it is but it's getting real boring.

Is this is the beat that you are referring to, when we went against each other? And, I dunno, sounds hip hop to me...
as this whole thread has shown, what one person sees as "Hip Hop" another scowls at. I think everyone needs to chill the fk out for real. People listening to music without vocals and make a "Hip Hop" judgement based on their own biases. If I wanted someone to tell me what hip hop is they sure the hell better be older than I am cause I been listening to this shit for a LONG time. Like what someone brings or stfu, you get a vote, not a pedestal to preach at others. My 2 coppers on all this and this aint at you fury, talking in general on this thread.

Man I feel, you. It ain't a big deal. Yes, it's all subjective.

I get what you are saying, I try to mix it right up and not be too predictable, but when you have a style, you have a style.
Sometimes I wonder how many times you can make basically the same beat, using all the same techniques, the same sounds and it not to stagnate. Back when I was making "Dre" beats, I really got stuck into a rut of making beats in the same way. It got very boring for me very fast, and I lost my inspiration to make music for years. Creativity is about being creative, trying new things and pushing boundaries, not necessarily finding a formula that works and sticking to it. Thats when things start to stagnate and get predictable. This goes to anybody creative, keep pushing the boundaries and try to think outside of the box instead of confining yourself to one. A single formula only has a limited life span until people get bored of it.
Like I said to @Memento Beats months ago, I try to make subtle complexity in the repetitive. This way a song is over before you notice, it leaves you wanting more, without really realising why. Its how a basic 4 bar loop can remain interesting throught the length of the track, with just subtle changes at key moments. Great hip hop is a balance between the hypnotic repetition and the subtle variation that keeps it all interesting. This is what I gleaned from studying the work of Diamond D, Showbiz, Dr Dre, Rza and Pete Rock.

I think worrying about making things that sounded similar hindered me when starting out. Worried of people saying my beats all sounded the same.

But as a producer you should do this. Find a sound that works then make a tonne of beats send em out and move on.

Because one of your beats goes to rihanna one to drake one to jay z one to nas and they're heard individually amongst different style tracks from other producers. But people can recognise your sound from artist to artist or whatnot.

The problem is tho... it's like 10 producers all making the same one styled track. So each week we getting 10 tracks that sound the same and sound the same as last weeks beats. It'd be like listening a nas album butevery producer tried to copy the same one rick ross beat. And then his next album same too ha.

See, I never understood why people tend to say that IllMuzik favours Boom Bap. We don't! There's plenty of Trap guys on here. Plenty. I'm more of a Boom Bap guy of course, but like I mentioned before, there's lots of really good Trap beats in these battles too.

I think what it really comes down to is the whole Trap vs BoomBap thing. When I judge a beat I listen for lots of things. I don't think to myself "oh this one is Boom Bap so I'm voting for it". Not at all. We have to stop looking at these beats as "Trap" or "Boom Bap". Vote for what just sounds fucking dope. That's the way I see it.

So for example, if you upload a Trap beat for a battle and it doesn't win but some Boom Bap beat won, maybe it's just the Boom Bap was way fucking better! Has anyone ever thought of that? I mean, look at these stupid award shows like the Grammys - we all know it's just a popularity contest and it has nothing to do with how good the person's music is, whereas here with our battles IT IS based on how good the beat is.

As for the sound of Trap stuff, yes it can be generic and boring. Same for Boom Bap. I don't care what anyone makes, just as long as it's dope.

You almost won last Halloween? XDDDDD

Where are you winning??? Who is above you? :D You haven't won anything for like a year or something hahahahah. Besides look at the number of battles you participated in and the number of battles I participated in. We are only 13 points apart yet you were in 87 where I was in 62. :D So who's better? :p

You have a seizure here or something? Someone forgot to take their medication today? ;)

I have nothing against boom bap. I do boom bap myself from time to time, I also make many other things. But it's better to call me IDIOT and FOOL.

First of all, I didn't curse nor offended you with any bad word you FOOLISH IDIOT. But I'm doing it on purpose now you FOOL. You are the only one member of all time rank doesn't deserve to be there at all YOU IDIOT. You are saying I don't have respect for TRUE hip hop (what does it even mean? lmfao). I appreciate things that was made by SoulCity or MFRiddlah. Also JAYUNO who was crazy with his sample flips. But you are less than average for me. You have never impressed me and to be honest you are the only member that is in All Time Rank that I have almost zero respect for and whom I do not fear at all. @crog85 is a beast, @S3oulC1ty is a beast, @Sucio is a beast, @ThE_SiRe_BeAtS is crazy with his productions, @ArvinArmani can hit sometimes really really hard, @Bugsy and @KAMBOSLICE too. Fact that people like them are beneath you is a joke.

I agree with @Primz every genre sounds more or less the same but stay tru and keep talking bs as you're doing right now you FOOL. ;)

Fuck you @TACTIK
THATS MORE LIKE IT MY FUCKING BOYYYYYY.. I'M FUCKIN PROUD OF YA SON. LOL

Could you send me this beat files? I wanna remix it to full on trap and see how it sounds. Got some pretty dope ideas for it
Funny you should ask, it was inspired by your beat for the final, and when I was making it yesterday, and struggling with the drums I was seriously considering asking if you wanted to collab on it.
I will track it out and send you a link, I havent converted the synths to wav yet so no point sending an flp.
