I just got back from the movie and it is an experince. I think that when you get the chance you should go see it (Believer or not).
For me it was very personal casue i am a Believer.

It is very emotional. I left the theather exusted. :bawling:



Just see it and give your opinons. I want to get everyones point of view
you may want to brush up on your bible stories before you go.it will help explain alot.

Hey,

I can't WAIT to see how many people magically become 'experts' of Judeo-Christian and Roman relations after seeing this movie...just like there were millions and millions of 'experts' on Scottish-English relations after Braveheart 10 years ago.

Remember kids, it's just a movie about a man; some people believe that this man was the son of God, some people believe that he was just a man like anyone else here. This movie will be fashionable to watch and discuss for a time, just like the film The Last Temptation of Christ was back in the early 90's...it slowly faded away into obscurity, just like most films do.

I think that a lot of people are 'against' this film because:

1. As Gibson is a traditionalist Catholic who leans towards pre-Vatican II doctrine, some of which included making the Jews responsable for killing Jesus; this makes him an easy target for groups like the Anti Defamation League, saying that he is spreading his 'anti semetic' beliefs.

2. According to some, parts of the film may be historically innacurate.

3. Parts of the film are based in Mr. Gibson's interpretation of the New Testament; not everybody reads this the same way, he will be accused of having 'misinterpreted' it.

4. It is visually violent.

5. As for its 'realism'....we can only guess what is 'real' because none of us, including Mr. Gibson, were there at the time.

6. Satan is portrayed by a woman.

7. People are SO into their faith that they have a hard time looking at the film objectively, as a simple film telling a story about a person whose life and teachings have influenced millions and millions of people.

No, I haven't seen the movie yet...I'll probably wait for the book to come out.

My wife n I are goin tomorrow nite. I born and raised a Roman Catholic, but now I have no denomination. I am not religious nor an athiest, but I believe in certain aspectsa brought up by Vitaminman and Mike,,,,He could of well been just some dude who fooled people into believing his religion and ways of life. Check it, nobody was there and it is way too long ago for any type of literature to be accurate. All those "miracles" sound nice and gives us hope to believe in somethin, but David Blaine does some stuff I can't explain but I don't go believin his ways of life,,,I like to eat meat dammit!!!! 1

as far as him being real, thats a historical truth in itself..... the debate among scholars isnt whether or not he existed, or even crucified, but whether he rose from the dead.

well, if there werent so many fulfilled prophecies regarding his birth, life, death, and ressurection, this would certainly hold a lot of weight. men cant collaberate over three hundred predictions about a persons birth, life, death, and ressurection in such detail and have them all come true....... and the overall accuracy of the book itself from the earliest found transcripts is very high, like 90%...... in contrast to the book of mormon, which has undergone thousands of small changes since its birth...

and from what i have read about the movie, there a few innacuracies, and embelishments.... and what troubles me is that this will give fellow believers such as myself, a false sense of truth and act like everything happened exactly how the movie portrays it.... (if it isnt biblical, it doesnt "count", so to speak..) and it may not be the case.

at the end of the day, as with any religion, there are men with agendas and personal beliefs (you would be suprised at how many pastors dont truly believe...) and men are flawed in this respect... and so any gained knowledge will have a human source with a humans take on the matter, as with this movie.

Well, your sources are BADLY misinformed.

It is a FACT that the Romans made a PRACTICE out of crucifixion. It was a normal event for them- they were known for it. it is entirely possible. For one, a crucifixion involves SPIKES- not nails- through the wrists, not the hands like everyone tends to say. The way your bones are set, there is an opening between the two bones in your forearm and the spike went through there. . The other thing is that your feet are also spiked- which means you aren’t hanging and that you do have some method of support. And eventually you die of asphyxiation.

As far as the “Romans writing the bible like 500 years later” well, that theory undoes itself. The Jews had the Law, The Prophets, and Psalms- the Old Testament- before Christ was even born. This is also historical, undisputed fact. The only possible writing by the Romans would be the New Testament, which does nothing but support the Old Testament and supports the fulfillment of prophecies from the same documents. They would have had to be Jewish Scholars (Scribes) to have enough knowledge to corroborate information on that level.

And even still, the New Testament was began around 31 A.D, the earliest (according to secular scholars…) being the writings of Paul. Couple that with the intense persecution by the Romans of the early church… it makes absolutely zero sense that they would have done that, much less could.
