I know the difference, but doesn't the versatility aspect also depend on the artist you work with as well? There are still producers who stick to, or have created their niche with one genre, and that's how they make their bread. While there are also producers who are genre fluid, even though they may have a characteristic sound. My original wasn't necessarily to defend trap lol, I've just observed that when it comes to production/beatmaking many people only think about trap and boom-bap and don't consider every other type of sound/style in between.
