The interesting thing about themes like this one, is you end up realising how far you can go.

You're going to really degrade your beats(channels) through distortion and crushers etc... then at the end go... oh wait, it doesn't even sound that distorted. That happened to me in a different theme. You can really fuck shit it up before it sounds properly fucked up.
That's one way to create Lo-Fi. The other way is to use lots of reverb, clean jazz guitar or piano, insert background noises without using distortion. Basically Chillhop.

Time Limit: 2 minutes
*Vocal Track Allowed?: NO
**Vocal Snippets Allowed?: YES

===========
* VOCAL TRACK ALLOWED? This means you can have a full vocal track with your beat (acapella, for example).
** VOCAL SNIPPETS ALLOWED? This means you can have vocal snippets in your beat (very short vocal parts, for example). This is where you can also have an intro with talking (like from a movie).
===========

Voting

If you are competing, you will be able to vote but not for yourself. DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT! I will be watching for cheaters. This means you cannot sign up under different names or get your friends and family to sign up either. If you are caught cheating you could be banned.

Voting Criteria

You can use whatever sounds you want, samples, synths, just remember to read the rules for the rest of the restrictions. What the judges will be looking for is originality, creativity, mixing skills and overall dopeness!

Beats

All the beats will now be displayed in a random order and without any names. All you will see is: Beat #001, Beat #002, etc. This is so that there is no favoritism when voting.

Rules

If you're not sure about the rules, read this thread.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions about the competition, please post them in here.

What's good everyone? I'm new here... Having trouble understanding what's the format is? Do you just upload a beat and check results later? Or is it on Zoom where you play your beats on the spot?

Hey Fam. You just upload a beat in mp3 form. Then Fade will post the beats here for people to listen to and vote. Afterwards, the results will be posted.

The thing that'll mess with you when entering such battle is that you'll degrade something, think yeah this is lofi'd /fucked/whatever. Then go... actually this doesn't sound that messed up.

Surprised you how far you can mash up a signal before it actually sounds mashed up.
i thought lo-fi is that rainy sound when you drink coffee in a chilled cafe....huh

Ur def not wrong with this interpretation. You can def go that route and it'll be considered lofi. Iron Keys is correct in regards to my music also. I just process my sounds through this old sampler in 16 bit and pitch it down. Sometimes I'll run the entire beat through my 4 track recorder for some tape hiss. I know the process is retarded lol but I like the sound. Can't wait to hear what you got. Good luck.

Yes its all up for personal interpretation. For me is all about sampling. My all time favorite lofi track is row flip by sweetbn_. He used a piano sample from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, pitched it down like crazy and added some deep drums. And the flow is amazing. Just my two cents. Good luck everyone!
