    iMac

I can't really say for sure. I'm running Ethno and Symphonic together at the same time. It runs fine for me, but they are in standalone mode. I'm not running, say, Pro Tools or Logic at the same time. If you're planning on running a die-hard software based production studio, it's probably...

    iMac

Yeah but Windows blows as far as stability goes. As far as price goes, I don't know about Apple's price points in the UK, but in Canada, Apple pricing is getting pretty competitive with high-end PCs now. As far as hardware and software for making music, Mac is just as compatible. Damird...

    Mpc500!!!!!!!

They should have maximized that screen area. One stupid little blue screen surrounded by a black border. If that screen was larger, I'd consider it as a take-along unit. Slik said that the MPC 1000 should have been the battery operated unit. I co-sign with that. Lithium polymer technology...

    iMac

I picked up the 24" Core 2 Duo a week ago. Runs MOTU Symphonic and Ethno Instruments in Standalone Mode perfectly. To answer the question "Are iMacs good for music production?"...indeed my friend, yes indeed. SIDEBAR: I'm running the machine with just the 1GB RAM that it came with from the...

Favorite piece of hardware and why?

My VP-9000. Love that VariPhrase technology. Tweaks and modifies samples like no other sampler can. Near perfect timestreching, pitch and format modifications

mpc 4000 ... replace the stock hard drive ASAP!

The unit's software runs off of ROMS and main memory, it doesn't require the HD as memory. It sure polls the drive a lot though, which usually leads to failure in the stock drive.

    New Mac Prooooooooooooooo

The Canadian price is $2799, which is cheaper than the Quad G5 selling for $3999. The specs seem good enough for most producers. The only thing I would do is upgrade the RAM and add another hard disk. That would bring it up to about $3200. I'm curious, what did you factor into your...

    Best way to "dust" record's?

I have this old record brush that my dad bought in 1970 something. Works like a charm. I think Radio Shack sells similar brushes.

    MPC 60 vs. Laptop

If you're already making loot off of the Fruit, maybe you should continue to work that way. If you're going to be moving around, all you gotta do is plant the laptop in a bag and away you go.

    Question about Mac's

The speed of Serial ATA could be a factor in it I would assume. A lot of my clients are running Pro Tools on iMacs and Mac minis without external storage and they are running it just fine. Most of them are running it on one partition drives and are not having stall problems. An...

    Question about Mac's

I like to keep the audio and work files for Peak and Pro Tools on separate drives from the OS, it's just the way I've always done it. On our G4s, we have separate SCSI drives, but on a notebook you only have one drive to play with...unless you use external firewire drives. So for me...

    Question about Mac's

I have a Macbook too. Apple upgraded it with 100 GB hard disk space and the full 2GB upgrade. I was against running Pro Tools and the OS on the same drive, so I partitioned the drive and loaded the OS and all my apps (including Pro Tools) on the first partition and left the second partition...

    Copped the MV-8000

I had posted some heated comments earlier on today in response to your calling me confused and you had replied, young_keyz. It looks like those comments have been deleted. It's probably a good thing that they were. To you it looks like I'm swapping equipment, to me, I'm trying to strike a...

    Copped the MV-8000

You bring up some valid points, however they are irrelevant in this instance. I didn't sell my 4000 cause I don't know what it is I'm doing or what is is I want. I know the 4K's OS inside and out. Not once did I state that I was encountering difficulties working these two pieces. I was just...

    Copped the MV-8000

So Rhythmikal, it's been a month since you got the machine. What are your thoughts? Also for those MV owners who were or still maybe MPC users, what are your thoughts on working with both machines? I'm curious as to whether it's a good investment or not. I've come across someone selling...

    Copped the MV-8000

It's nice to see that people are warming up to Roland stuff. I have an XP-60 workstation from back in the day and a Fantom-S88. I love the interface in both units. When I was in school, I was taught on a Roland XP-30. I recently sold my MPC-4000 so I could have a more mobile unit to travel...

Tips on actually producing an individual

Keep the weed and the booze outside the door. I don't know how many times I had to cuss rappers out just cause they weren't listening...cause they were drunk or high. If that's what they like to do, they can do that after the session is concluded. A sober session more productive and fast...
