quantizing question?
id try not to use the quantize funtion if i were you. quantize makes everything sound a little to perfect (machine like). practise programming without the quantize fuction and your grooves will have a much more natural feel. also it will improve your programming skills very quikely. -
Normalizing
id stray away from normalizing any of your samples. in fact dont be to concerned if its not at 0db. of course youve gotta do sumthing if you cant hear it in the mix but when you normalize it will make your sample louder but it will also bring up heaps of the noise floor from the vinyl. try using... -
Harware mixer
seeing youve got a laptop id doubt you got rca inputs or outputs. the inputs on the mixer are probably rca so get a 'rca to 1/8th inch' cable n plug it from your soundcard input to the rec out of the mixer. get another one and plug in from your soundcard out put into a spare channel on the... -

midi and audio sequencer
sonar is alright. i think whatd best suit you is cubase. cubase has very good midi capabilities and also audio editing. the sequencer is easy to use and you can set up your mpc like any other midi device. give it a go but i think any music production software would be alright as long as you... -
Turntables for diggin
if its just for samplin then d-twizzles right any old belt drive turntable will do but if you wana be scratchn the minimum you need is a direct dirve turntable and again a decent needle. -

you spot on tommyill. if you gunna play the sample with live instruments you have to liscence the compositional copyright. advantage being its usually held by a publisher or the original artist and u dont have to deal with a label. disadvantage its sometimes hard to find these artists or... -
VST Reverbs
ull find you are able to make many reverb vsts sound good its just a matter of playing around with them. i use waves when its for vox or something important (large snare reverbs) but also native reverb when i want to set things up quikely. remember when you get a nice sound out of your reverb... -

if your using an mpc proply it shouldnt make your drums sound weak. in fact quite the opposite. mpc's make everthing sound chunk especially drums. -
