    I use the insert plugin "simply" labeled compressor and use the vocal expander preset, then adjust according to the artist

    I only use a gate for vocals and vocal sample, dont think its wise to put it on your master track.

    Try this and see if it u gets u some clientel,worked for me when i first started trying to sell beats, 1. Go to kinkos print out some flyers saying NEED BEATS in a large bold font (list your style hip/r&b etc.) make sure to put your number and email addy. 1. Leave'em at all music stores...

    I use the presonus pre amp,its pretty decent,i dont use it all the time though ,it kinda depends on the vocal strength of the artist that im recording.

    Most of the time i dont set out to create a certain type of track unless its a specific project, I mainly play with the keys or sample for awhile and see where it takes me from there.

    For me it really depends on the type of track i'm trying to create, I agree with bigrob by doubling the bpm it seems to let me put a little more swing on the drum track. just my opinion.

    On the Presonus the mic and instrument inputs are different because the instrument input uses 1/4 cable while the mic uses a xlr, hopefully you are not using a mic that has a 1/4 cable. hope this helps a little.
