everything has to be a race issue ... WHY?

I could care less if african americans are 99% responsible for hip hop and thier trends. I know the history and I pay respect to the people that started it or had a part in it or whatever you want to call it.... but again I pay respect to the "people" not "black" people or "white" people ... just plain old "PEOPLE"..... that's what they are! why must I label them a race? what point does that make? that's like announcing during a football game "The afican american quarterback, Michael Vick threw 3 touchdowns" ... why can't it just be "Michael Vick threw 3 touchdowns" ????????? There is only one race .... The human race. ...... Fuck the bullshit ...

Time and time again minorities complain about the gap between different races but then something like you said there class does nothing but further that gap imo ! Hip hop woz formed with no boundaries as too race at all and yet somewhere along the line some people see it as an african amercian thing sure its dominated by african americans but that doesnt make it solely for them, its a shame there has to be so many boundaries like mad said we are all one race why create divides !
fuck it we'll have white rappers black golfers wotever ! it doesn't matter ! it only matters if you make it matter !

it comes down to where your from and how you have been through life
I wish I could believe that "we are the world, color doesn’t matter" stuff, But thats not my realtity. Everything i deal with DAILY has something to do with my race. Im not trying to pull a piety party either that’s just how it is here.

My Politics, work, school, sports, and music all have to deal with race on a daily basis. So it shouldn’t be so surprising that I have certain views about hip hop. That because I have seen it from my end of the spectrum .

MarkN I respect your point of view man but race dose matter alot in this country rather u like it or not. I have been to the UK and things are very different overtheir(in a good way). You see people from all walks of life and cultures living tighter. Its not like that here in the US.

I do respect that people have different points of view then me that’s why I always state that this is my opionion.

I have to go study but I will have more specific responses later on

Think about it, all cultures and ethicnites are invited to participate in hip hop culutre. But when they do they adopt many black cultural mannerisms(dress, slang, etc) Alot of people dont have any context for what they copying or emulating. They just do it casue other people do it.

Hip hop is world wide now and i have to come to terms with that.(illmuzik had helped me see that) But 99% of hip hop comes down to this.

If (urban)black americans aint feeling it, it aint gonna selll and other people aint gonna feel it. your not gonna see black urban youth imitating white kids in the suburbs or (black or white) kids in the UK, germany or france

its a trickle down effect. Shit starts in the black american urban enivroments and spreads everywhere else So thats what i mean when i say hip hop music is made for (urban)african americans

Bring on the contraversy.....

(i think we had a topic about this earlier)

I understand this is your opinion and so i'm not out to say anything against that. i see where you're coming from, but i don't think you're completely right. I don't think that people who are into hiphop (really into hiphop for the quality of music and not for the image) do this shit because other people do it. Would you say that a black kid doing it because everybody else is has any more of a claim to it than a white kid who's doing the same thing? I don't think so. I don't think either one of them can say shit about it. It doesn't matter if you're white or black as long as you love what you do and would be doing it regardless if anybody else ever even heard a track you made. A def. agree that when you get into the politics of the music industry, race is a huge player since that pretty much determines how they're going to market the artist. And anyway, people who are real don't buy into the bullshit of image according to how the industry defines it. If you make ill beats, i don't give a fuck if you're a dirty hippy living off your parents trust fund. Good music is good music. That's what makes real art so great. Just don't get it confused with the mainstream bullshit you see. I feel like when you talk about white suburban kids acting "black" because that's what they see on BET doesn't really count because I don't even consider that to be hip-hop. That's MONEY, not MUSIC. In real music, it doesn't matter where you come from.

This may be controversial as well since we all know how touchy the subject of race is. but the fact is, when you go to a big concert like Nas for instance (i went this summer), i'd say taht about 80 percent of the people there were black. But of those 80 percent, i doubt that many of them were really cultured in hiphop. The fact that any person who came on stage before nas, got booed (yes, some were wack) and that people didn't even know who they were (i heard a lot of "who's that nigga...booo...get off the stage) shows that people don't know shit about hiphop once you get past the huge names like Nas. I don't think anybody can fairly say that they are true fans of hiphop or that they have any claim to it simply because your black. Once again -- true music doesn't discriminate. The industry does. and that's not music. thats MONEY

that's a white point of view right there. I think that white people tend to acknowledge less than it should be. It is def. a big issue. Most of our country is a bunch of racist hicks (the south and midwest) with a couple urban pockets where the line gets a little more blurry. But that all has to do with politics etc. When you talk of art in THE MOST ABSTRACT sense, before all the money gets involved, race is not an issue. I can't stress that enough.

it's hard for anybody to talk objectively about this because we are all influenced by our experiences with race. There's no right answer -- it's something that we all are in together and have to talk as such, with biases and all. we just got to see each other's point of view, acknowledge that it's just a legit as your own, and then work together to break it all down.

Word. Human kind originated in Africa many eons ago and as people spread across the world, the environment had an impact on evolution both physically and culturally. I believe the peeps with the longest history are the Bushman in Africa who STILL live like their ancestors did, even though the Jehova's Witnesses and Catholics selfishly modernized their country.

I really think that racial talk is going nowhere...

Frankly, I'll say I'm with Class on that one. Race IS an issue. If you're white living in a white neighourhood/country, well, there is'nt much you can say to deny it... AT ALL. Black, hispanic (actually mostly anyone but whites) live racism in a way or another on a DAILY BASIS! (believe it or not, it is a FACT)... BUT....

Hiphop was originally for black people. Most of the rappers giving messages in the beginning where talking about the hood, and more specifically the blacks in the hoods, cuz they where blacks. But tthat was back then... now, the message is more universal.

And, it is true, America as a lot to do with the hiphop culture, but there are artists not coming from the states how still do their thing. I cant say much about Canada, cuz our MCs dont get the love they deserve (as I said earlier), but if you look at the France's MCs some of them emulate the states, but not all of them. They got their own flav... and I'm pretty sure that other part of the world got the same thing going on.

Race is only a issue if you let it be, depending on where you live or what you've seen. I live in the Bay Area and fortunate for me it's very diverse and race isn't that big of a deal. Through out my life I have seen racist people from both sides. And in my experiences I have encountered more black racist people. I'm sure that there are more white racist people in the world but from my life experiences that's what I've seen. My girlfriend is black and I'm Italian. There has been countless times where black guys come up and make there racist comments to her or to me about being with each other. The funny looks I receive is endless. Some by white people but more from black people. This doesn't fade me. I have thick skin and brush it off. I don't hold it against any one race or group of people. My 2 roommates are black. I have black cousins and a uncle that's black. This is what I seen growing up, so color was never something that was looked upon as different. people are just people. I know I shouldn't judge people but if I do, I would judge them by who they are as a person and not by a color that society labels them with.

But all in all, IT IS! Not to you, but to most people, as you stated so well yourself...

Right?

It's sad, but the reality...

And unfortunately, blacks are racist as hell. I know, I'm black... And that's because we are racist between each other...
