Ive been trying to get more people into using skype for a while since I like it way more then AIM, ICQ, MSN, etc...

If any of you guys havent tried it its pretty dope. One of the best things about it aside from already being able to message friends/family for free via standard IM style chatting, is that you can video conference as well. IMO this feature is highly more integrated and works better then other similar programs such as AIM.

I actually use Skype on a regular basis to cut down on my long distance phone bills with my homie that has an engineering gig up in LA...We even get to trade beat ideas in real time through video conferencing. Its a really powerful tool.

Anyways, if your interested leave a comment with your Skype name and I'll add you to my network.

In comparison to iChat its about the same I imagine.
But I never wanted to pay for an account.
Skype is totally free.
I could be wrong but when i first copped my mac I was gonna use iChat and it asked me to sign up and pay for a Mac Account in order to use the service...
I never bothered messing with it after that so I dont know too much about iChat however....

Skype is for both platforms tho, PC & Mac so theres an obvious benefit right there.

I downloaded Skype but it kept seeming like it was trying to charge me or something. I guess I need to revisit this and see what the deal is

Skype wont charge you a cent for IM chatting and video chatting/or conferencing....

What Skype does charge for, which i dont use anyways is:
If you want your own online phone number...
If you want to send SMS text messages to cell phones...
If you want voicemail, just like a regular phone service...
If you want call forwarding...
If you want to call landlines...

If you just want to utilize the basic IM chatting, video chatting from one computer to another its 100% free....
They just offer additional services if your into that.

The yahoo chat is ill.

The voice calls are free.

My moms uses it to talk to the Philipines all the time. When my wife goes away fro work, we use yahoo chat to talk because we can see each other. On some real video phone shit.

I use skype...hardly. I have used it for conference video calls which is the best feature yet, sound quality is good too. It also supports video/audio which is lacking from amsn...I only used ichat at work, im not to fond about it but its good from mac to mac but otherwise I think it sucks and is to much platform based....msn on ichat through jabber is crap too (jabber in specific). So...im running adium, amsn and skype....

Skype is yet another way to take your discussions offline from email or "friends/followers" on your favorite social networking site to face-to-face meetings to close the deal or get your foot in the door.

Really effective if you can influence your network to embrace Skype (and other applications like it) as well.
