Heres the 411 My cousin Yesenia recently made a reggaeton track that sounded a lil off i like her lyrics but it sounded like the studio guy used a different pitch/ with a different key{my opinion}, that just threw her vocals off. I told her about ILLMuzik and that there was people that can make her voice on the track sound better by using a different pitch or key so at first she got offended but after someone else let her have it she emailed me and told me she was interested and wanted to know if anyone can do better. you guys can judge for yourself and if you can do better i will email you the track or post a link in your private message on ILLMuzik. so heres the beat and if you are interested let me know . oh yeah please try not to give her bad feedback she b getting mad over criticism/opinion just let her nno what you think without saying something like for example damn yo shit trash! lol ...but if ya think you can make better track let me know. Thank you

I have to say that one of the first things an artist NEEDS to get their head around is criticism. Everyone has an opinion and they usually stink. Being able to seperate constructive criticism from hate is very invaluable for the growth and development of an artist. Not getting to grips with it can be counter productive and can be disheartening. But then constructive criticism can be disheartening too, but at least its constructive and leads to improvement. I got my way around it by knowing who to listen to. It generally turns out to be the people I see as better than myself, or skilled in certain areas that I take advice from. I dont generally take advice from laymen.

As for the beat, yeah you are right, the vocals dont fit the beat, its like a vocal just slapped on a beat. It really needs a beat written to the vocal, I could probably do that. Check out some of my work on my soundcloud....link below.

Wrightboy..... My first thought was "I need Love" - LL Cool J. Cool beat, real chill vybe. Any Samples? I couldnt tell anything wrong with the bass or guitar. Well Played!

RiskMuzik. I see you are pretty new to this. Glad you got your keyboard, you will really notice how much easier life is with that. As for structure, you can always download some midi files, import into reason and open the tracks up to see whats going on. Failing that, just study your favourite tracks and try to decifer whats going on, harder than using midis, but improves the ears.
Your skills will definitely improve all the time, you have to stick with it. It can take a long time to learn on your own through trial and error, you might want to find a mentor locally or sign up to a course for more precise targetted learning which will be much faster.

@2good - nope, no samples! 'preciate the feedback. i keep saying that i'm going to teach myself bass/guitar, but never do. finally picked 'em up after a while, and put them to some use.

@risk - thanks. now get to figuring out reason and that midi keyboard. shouldn't take too long. just listen to what 2good said, and study, study, study.

@everybodyelse - what's up? can we get some tracks added to the showcase?
@fade - put up a track. lead by example. :D

Hi, I just won the 'Beat This!' Comp and could reeeeally use some feedback on my beats and what you all think. One problem I have realized recently is that I find myself approaching beat-making as more of an engineer than a producer (I produced punk and rock bands for a long time) and I feel that sometimes it hinders my creativity as far as hip-hop goes. Also I'm dead broke and have no access to records and am therefore reduced to mostly sampling from digital sources, so that can be a hurdle as well. On a brighter note I'm wrapping up a full length album with two emcees and will probably be touring and promoting as they're dj/ hype man. Anyways, take a listen and let me know what you guys think, I appreciate critique. thanks. -J-Rock

Speaking of learning, I recently copped the DVD "Epic Beats "Maybach Style" 2012 Hip Hop Chord Progressions" it's about 24 lessons, each an hour or so a piece from beatstoday.net..and I'm looking into getting (hopefully) a gold membership for the tutorials.

Thats cool, but sometimes you cant beat personal tuition. I have taught my friend to scratch dj and use some of the waves plugins. His progression has been pretty damn quick. Having someone right there that can pointout silly mistakes and problems before they happen and show you how to avoid them just shaves so much time from the learning experience. That all said, anything that teaches you is a good thing.

Wrightboy: this is a beauty, i love that you use live instruments, nice landscape, hihats are gooood, this is some real movie soundtrack feel. Would love to have a longer version. Keep on that live vibe!!! :)

RizkMuzik: not bad for your first reason beat.. You will probably go further "inn" when you get that keyboard.. Good luck sir and keep making music.. :)

JRockpsycho: i really love that "memoremix" track, but every track is tight, i guess just do what you do, and your style will shine.. "Memoremix" is also featured in this mix of songs done by Cecilia Riis Kjeldsen btw, good luck touring :) ;

Not bad,

Something that'll really improve your music is EQ'ing, it'll help make those kicks and snare really pop out of the mix.
Check out my sound!
