No, he humiliated his country in the world press and stated once again that the western world isn't much better when it comes to treating their prisoners.
However, what happened in Iraq is nothing compared to what goes on in Guantanemo. An undercover soldier disguised as a prisoner got beaten up by mistake, and so bad that he suffered brain damage...and he is not alone. Europe and especially USA are not any better when it comes to torture and terrorism.
Only thing I would argue to this man's defence is that he might have been indirectly ordered to do this from higher ranks.

the fact is... just about every developed country uses or has used torture to extract vital information from those who know... every government has a secret organization (we got the CIA) who does the dirty work...
