Man.....this album is some bull

I tried to be open minded, i went to best buy and saw the CD,. i thought to myself "i hear cats talkin about madlib all the time , let me open my mind and try some new shit."

So i put down the boyz in the hood album i was gonna buy(which i heard was hot) and copped the quasimoto, the future adventures of loard quas.

MAn when i put this shit in my car i new i made a mistake. I really tried to be open minded about this shit man. I listened to it twice. BUt this is just some bull to me man. THe music is to random, it has too many interuptions, and on top of that
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CAT RAPPING ABOUT.

Personally....Ive never been a huge madlib fan, some of his joints are cool, but most of the time, hes kinda chaotic and all over the place and it starts to just feel like music with an anxiety disorder....Too bad yer CD sucked tho Class....Honestly tho, i wouldnt striaght up knock all stuff that aint the boyz in the hood flavor just becuase of one mishap....

You know what u shoulda copped since u were tryin to get into Quas is the New lyrics born, or the old latyrx....Much cooler in my opinion.....It aint all nerdy tho man...You jus happened to grab somethin that was (dont be fooled by one shitty album and think that all open-minded stuff is the same), that quasy shit is on some wierd trip out shit anyways, so i cant call it, specially since i dont own one quasy record - but i have heard their stuff before.....Jus too bad you were swayed from tryin new things that quick....:( lol

U ever heard of the People Under the Stairs???.....CHeck them out sometime, and i bet u that u will enjoy any album you cop by them cuz every one that they have dropped has been pure dopeness.....

Or try fucking with some Living Legends, or the Grouch....

Fuck it, even some Atmosphere.....

Just dont think its all crap and lump it all into one pile of shit music, becuase theres so much variety out there.....

I have that album, its called 8 Millions stories. You should check out Soul Position's other release 'Unlimeted EP' too...RJD2's production isn't abstract, merely different, and Blueprint's flows aren't 'nerd raps' they are simply tight rhymes from a variety of different perspectives.

Like Deuce said, I don't think it would be fair to dissmiss everything that gets labelled 'underground' or 'indie hiphop' as a result of listening to one album.

quas aint for everybody. i love the shit for the same reason you dont like it. The random, trippy, interupted, shit. It feels like your on shrooms listenin to it. I cant listen to it all the time, but its cool now and then.

But dont sleep on madlib though. If your still interested in some of madlibs shit, pick up the Madvillainy album. That shit is crazy. Its mad on the beats, and mf doom rhymin. Or that Madlib - Shades Of Blue. Thats real different. He plays live drums on it, plays the keys and percussion and some samplin on it too, but that shits dope. Its kinda, jazz/hip-hop. Theres Jaylib, YNQ, all kindsa shit hes doin. Im just sayin, just cuz you dont like the quas shit, dont mean you aint gonna like other madlib shit. But like campo said you should to download some shit first to get a taste of it.

if this was your first foray into the "underground" market... you sure picked a bad one to start with. madlib-ESPECIALLY in his quasimoto guise- is an aquired taste if there ever was one.

Word up, but you know how people do....they have their own interpretations of somethin and then they are quick to slap a label on it becuase thats what other people say....I see it the same way Lex, every group has the opportunity to be progrssive and dope, nothings stopping them really, and many are, but when people get a taste of somethin drastically diff. from the norm, i think its hard to swallow on the first take so it gets dogged out....I do hate this stereotype tho....the whole NerdRap, or Backpacker bullshit....its fuckin retarded to call anything that aint yer typical rhyme flow and beats to be that!...I mean, do u go to the shows and all you see is a bunch a nerds and people wearing messenger bags!?...Im maaaad confused cuz ive been to numerous shows of that following and i never run into this imaginary idea of what people seem to think alternative hiphopers are like!?....

I just always notice that the most common interpretation (Not Classes specifically, but more just from first hand accounts) is that the people that like jeepbeats, and blingraps, and shit that degrates women, and stuff talkin about material objects....(basically most anything on the radio or the tube), tend to be the ones to call that shit backpacker or nerdrap.....Im personally still tryin to figure out why its that particular crowd that has so much trouble seeing past the exoskelton of alternative rappers so to speak?....Is it the fact that they arent your typical look, sound, dress, get up, typical appeal, adverse audiance, choice of expression...the list goes on???...Im just tryin to get the whole picture...And dude! - If somethin is wack, hey!, i agree, its purely fuckin garbage and there is no more to say really when u think about...I mean, there is no need to extend the definition of why?!....But when that label gets so freely used to stamp on anything outa the norm, it begins to sound like a cop out, or moreso a misunderstanding, or better yet - a misinformed listener.

It's all about appeal and marketing. People doesn't want to hear something complicated because music (espeically "rap") isn't supposed to be...as people put it. They just want a quick club-banger with simple rhymes that 13 year-old White Teenage girls can sing along to. It's really what it is, it's aimed towards suburban White kids who doesn't know any better. Music should be based on skills and heart, and some of these underground cats really have heart and contribute to Hip-Hop on a realistic level. That's why I would always respect artists who are like that. Even though I think Blueprint sucks as a producer, I will respect him and his partner Illogic, they always have something meaningful to say in their songs and not just nonsense like what a lot of Hip-Hop is today.

exactly,,,,well put man. Its fucked up that commercialism has taken over mainsteam rap. Some people like there music with no message or no meaning,,,and like to hear these songs in the clubs and jump around like idiots, drink shit at the bar they cant afford, or shit,,even drink out of gasoline cans,,lol. This is what it has come down to. Music is an artform and it's rare to even hear a rap joint on the air with any soul to it.

You guys got me interested now. I haven't bought a hip hop cd for a while. I think the last one was Tupac 1st release after he died. I like music w/ meaning so who are these cats Blueprint and Illogic? They got a groupname so I could check em out? What are some of the meaningful things they say in their music?

Anyhow, I hate when I buy a cd and it sucks nuts. Sorry it happened to you Classic. I remember meticulously opening the Neptunes 1st cd case/plastic. So I could return it if it sucked, which I did. I'm not about to support any "artist" that gives me earaches.

Well, at least you took a step out there and tryed it out. Some people will say they don't like an artist because someone else didn't like it. I've never got into Madlib. He just ain't my cup of tea.

yea man i appericate the comments yall, i am an open minded cat, and duce ur right i cant get bummed on indie hip hop becasue of one disk. But i gotta trust my instinct and honestly most of that stuff dosent appeal to me. The only reason why i even tried madlib is casue im a producer. If i wasent a producer i would stick to southern joints as far as hip hop is concerned. But im gonna check some of that stuff(after i download it)
