^^Word. I do actually like Quasimoto a lot myself, but that's besides the point.

....Looking at this from Classic's point of view, I can definately understand his frustration.lol. He turned down an album he knew he would think is hot in favour of some 'indie hiphop stuff'[I hate using those sorts of terms]...he puts the CD in his car stereo and hears what sounds like a helium-voiced crack head rapping about weed and hitting people with bricks.

Like everyone else has already mentioned, you can't help but appreciate Madlib's talent as a producer, and the stuff with MF Doom is tight too.

LOL u hit the nail on the hear right there... thats what has pissed me off the most.

Man i will try and give other madlib a chance down the road but for now im kinda threw with the cat. Again, i still respect the cat for what he does, but man its gonna be awhile before i buy another madlib, quasimoto, whatever... album

I think im gonna fuck wit little brother for now on, they are "indie" but they are down to earth, southern, and they talk real stuff.

To each his own on this stuff called hip hop but i like my hip hop music grounded

Yo Class,
Just to reiterate, from a samplist point of view, Madvilliany by Madvillian is one of the dopest beats and rhymes LPs (not just one or two good songs) of the decade. It'll make you raise the bar every time you sample something off of vinyl.
Sorry that Quas shit killed your buzz, on the good side you gave your dollars to a good label supporting real artists.
EZ

One other note regarding that intergalactic science fiction type flow, Kool Keith is the originator and the master. He was doing it twenty years ago, and he deserves to be mentioned.
Critical Beatdown is one of the all time classics and people are still emulating that style today. Unfortunately not so well most of the time....

C'mon Class, as a young black man I would expect you not to generalize shit into stereotypes or categories.

I'm not a big Quas fan, but don't let one album ruin your whole steez on trying new things.

It's like getting betrayed by a black girl, and being like "I will never trust a black chick again"

I'm just tying this into race cause I know your views on shit like that.

with your musical background, I'd suggest those:

K-Os - Exit (experimental, underground, but still really rooted)
K-Os - Joyfull Rebellion (Goes in different music genre... real interesting)
Pocket Dwellers - Lifecheck (live... think The Roots, but with a bigger band)
Little Brother - The Chitlin Circuit

d/l them before to see what it sounds like...

(btw... dont you have listening booths in your record stores?)

too bad, I mean I listen to all hip hop especially far left field not what you are calling backpack, Dan the automator, Thurston Howell III, cocoa brovas, yes Madlib, shobiz n AG.....Yes to understand hip hop, once upon a time there was abstract......Hip Hop Has no rules how many times have I said it...LOL but people continually try to put it into some pretty structured box based on some music theories or other stuff.....sure we want good listening instrumentals dont get me wrong....but what he is doing is an art.....like the difference in an abstract painting and some fucking Picasso or Monet masterpiece....seems like the problem is you are not a lover of the abstract but the purely sublime works that have structure...nothing wrong with that but you cant discount it because its closer to the original sound of the genre or at least the elements......once upon a time there was actually music based on an MC not an MC based on music but turntables, 12bit samplers and pure breaks.....Vinyl elements and what he is doing with the music in the background probably seem simple to you classic but you have to really hear what goes on with the sampling.....some people might say wack or whatever .....but true hip hop that is MC BASED....NOT a majority of the straight to the garbage can rap shit of today where the essence of the MC is lost and commercial appeal drives what might seem hot.............is gonna leave lot of people really bewildered and lost when they hear it....especially if they identify with what pretty much lately don taken over what the labels pimp on the air and people accept as music or hip hop.....I dont feel all of Madlibs stuff either but its not all backpack.....a lot of the real hip hop transitioned to what you are calling backpack.......4 years or maybe longer around When Water for Chocolate dropped..... I went to go see Tribe called Quest and Common here in DC at the 9:30 club and there was not too many of us there which surprised me because when they came out.....not too many other people than US listened to it....on the real.....anyhow things change and so do peoples likes and dislikes........if you just now really getting into hip hop and using what you hear today or the last 4 or 5 years to define it.....then a lot of the classic shit gets left in the dust unfortunately.........but you know to be honest what he is doing though is something that if I could not find and MC I would do and it might sound just as Ruff......I mean its just him producing the beats and MC'ng having fun with it......

well put,

and no producer makes hits continiously. They all made some gret bangers and will do every now and then. At least they last longer than most "pristine" producers...

yo classic the latest quasimoto is not a good introduction to madlibs work as its his most experimental work yet, if u wanna hear some more conventional work check for Lootpack, Jaylib or MED - push comes to shove.

also when the new AG album comes out later this year niggas is gonna b hurting cos lib did some fire beats on that.
