Original Sounds

Where do all the professional producers get thier sounds from, besides samples from drums and shit, i mean like keyboard sounds and stuff. cuz they can't all just use a keyboard presets, cuz everyone would have the same sounding tracks. Like the basses they use are FAT, and keyboard sounds are hella sick.

If you have your own style you don't have to worry about it sounding like some one else's work even if you use the same exact sounds

just try and find what sounds good to you -- if it happens to be the same modules -- so be it

Ive found that a particular sound can be modified and tweaked in so many ways, that with just one sound you can have an almost infinite range of sounds.
The more musically inclined you are, the better your musical ear is. Listening to all types of music helps to develop this.
As far as keyboards, there are TONS of different keyboards out there. All with different sounds. All producers use keyboards. Well at least 99.9% of them. But like I said an 'original sound' could very well come out of one of those preset sounds, that has been tweaked or modified in some way.

Alot of producers (Timbaland, Neptunes) are so creative that they just straight out invent sounds. This is the ultimate level of creativity to me.

belive it or not, most "Bigtime" producers dont even tweak there sounds, they mostly use the stock sounds and rinse it, I.E. neptunes etc etc

inrcityhoodmusic, what made u think i wasnted to use thier sounds? or even want to sound like them, i have no intention of doing that, i was just wondering where they come from, or thier method of making it original. so u should analyze 1st before u assume.

To have your own sound, one thing you can do is layer your drums into your sampler or MPC(whatever you use) The key is to compress and do all your EQ's the way you want it to sound before you sample it. Run it through a pre amp, whatever it takes!
Once you've been doing this for a while you will develop a sound that only you have, because nobody has the same equip. or ear as you. It takes creativity and time. Think about it. What defines Dre, Neptunes, Timbaland, etc. its the drums they use. along with there creativity.

I use vst plugins, u can get some hella good sounds from them, and u can get some pretty good ones for free

a couple of things you can do is;

1) add FX

2) add layers/layer sounds

3) tweek sounds you already have

4) create your sounds using sythns and stuff. I think "Absynth" and "Reaktor" are examples of this.

i think the answwer to the original question varies from poducer to producer. there are many producers of hit records that use the same stock presets over and over. There are certain Triton sounds that are heard so much that they actually pop up all over sample cds. I don't have a problem with the presdt itself popping up a lot because a good sound is a good sound. Nobody wpuld complain about a live fender Bass or les paul guitar being used over and over. looking at the various genres and styles the same intsruments have been used in shows that the same sound can be used effectively in many different ways despite sounding the same.

I have found certain presets that i like but i always seek out new sounds as well. I love the feeling of playing a sound that I know that nobody in the world has something quite like it, especially if it comes off well.

as for what this post was SPOSED to be about...... VST plugins are the way to be. I use a whole buncha different ones to create whatever sound i need. from strings and pianos to basses and synths, if you know somethin about programming a few choice pieces of VST u can get whatever sound u need. when i hear a sound in my head i can usually break it down into what kinda program, what kinda effects, etc.
