look, everybody is entitled to their opinion. And I respect it. But in my opinion, you can't tell me that what lil jon, neptunes, or guys like that is not real hip hop. At the very least, it's hip hop inspired music. You have to give them that. And if it's not hip hop, what is it? RnB? Country?, Reggae?, or maybe Dance music (technically any music that makes you dance is dance music) And by the way, we need to clarify what hip hop is. It's B-Boying, DJing/Beat making, Rapping, Graffiti. What we are really talking about is Hip hop music, which is rapping and Beatmaking.

True indeed on the spelling of Afrika Bambataa's name. He deserves that respect.

Neptunes and Preemo do 2 different styles of production. I would'nt compare the 2 anyway, but admit that both are talented in what they do. They're both musicians in their own right. That's all I'll say on this issue. Everybody mentioned in this thread that makes beats is talented in what they do. Somebody (millions) likes what the neptunes do, timbaland, lil jon, 45 king, pete rock, preemo, and a host of others.

Oh, and one last thing. If you really want to get right to it. NONE OF THESE PRODUCERS (PREEMO, NEPTUNES, TIMBALAND - ANY PRODUCER IN HIPHOP AND RNB) WOULD BE WHO THEY ARE IF IT WASN'T FOR JAMES BROWN. NOBODY - AND I MEAN NOBODY HAS INFLUENCED DISCO, RNB, HIP HOP, AND EVEN ROCK MORE THAN JAMES BROWN. HE PRODUCED DAMN NEAR ALL HIS HITS, PLAYS THE ORGAN/KEYS AND CREATED THE SOUNDS THAT DAMN NEAR 99% OF THESE PRODUCERS USE FOR THEIR DRUMS AND BASS. YOU ASK ANY OF EM'. THEY'LL TELL YOU. HE INVENTED THAT GULLY SOUND. MUDDY BASS. THE WAY HE TALKS/SINGS ON RECORDS. THE CADENCE OF HIS MUSIC AND THE REPETITIVE NATURE OF HIS SONGS. NONE OF THESE CATS CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO THE CONTRIBUTION HE MADE.

I'm talking song structure more so. Preemo and the rest have definitely taken it to the next level. Without James - no disco, no modern day RnB as we know it, definitely no P-Funk and George Clinton will tell you that. Even some of Bob James and that 70's Jazz - like Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd and the like - had a James inspiration. That funk, that James created, was in there. I'm not trying to take anything away from any producers talent - Preemo in particular - but you would be hard pressed to find artist who didn't have that James influence - be it direct or indirect. Check this out: I've read and heard countless interviews and the influence tree looks a little like this - OLD NEGRO SPIRITUALS GAVE BIRTH TO GOSPEL. GOSPEL GAVE BIRTH TO BLUES. BLUES GAVE BIRTH TO ROCK AND RNB. NOW IN THE 50'S AND 60'S - EVERYBODY TRIED TO IMITATE THE MOTOWN SOUND - GEORGE CLINTON USED TO WRITE FOR MOTOWN. JAMES BROWN WAS INFLUENCED BY BLUES AND GOSPEL. SOME OF JAMES BAND LEFT AND BECAME KNOWN AS FUNKADELIC AND LATER PARLIMENT/FUNKADELIC. DISCO CAME ON THE SCENE IN EARLY 70'S (72-73) WHICH IF YOU LISTEN TO JAMES STUFF FROM 70 - 75, YOU'LL SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. SLY STONE AND JIMI HENDRIX WERE INSPIRED BY BLUES. SLY INSPIRED GEORGE CLINTON AND JIMI INSPIRED SOME FUNK AND ALOT OF MODERN DAY ROCK.

I CAN GO ON AND ON BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS - WITHOUT ALL OF THIS GOING ON, PREEMO WOULD NOT HAVE NO RECORDS TO SAMPLE FROM. OR PETE ROCK, OR ME, OR ANYBODY.

FACE IT EVERYBODY - WE AINT ISH WITHOUT THOSE RECORDS - ALL OF US INCLUDING ME.

There are a lot of good producers out there at the moment. But it's hard to pick the best one.

Just Blaze, Kanye, Neptunes, Premo. Timb to name a few.

Kanye's 'Through The Wire' beat is hot.

Neptunes are losing their heat at the moment, they won't ever top 'Superthug'.

But for consistency over the years, it has to go to Premier. He's not out there as much as he used to be, but he keeps bringing the heat.

it's good to see a lot of variety in peoples taste and selection. myself personally i'm a ol' school cat. to me personally alot material that's being put out sounds bubble gum, overprocessed(sounds toooo good). i don't mind hearing the knicks and pops of a sample someone used. there's character in the tracks. the instrumentals alone will say sum'n to you. but enough said. here's my favs

dj premier
pete rock
large pro
mark 45 king
rockwilder
alchemist
beat minerz

a few have just slipped my mind..oh well time to bounce to the new years party. yall cats be safe and keep the music bangin.

to be honest not everyone samples to make beats and if you sample james brown he gets like 60% we all know he is the most sampled artist but to say premo wouldn't be makin hot shit without it is a bit far fetched if yo got a premo beat or infact any beat which has a sample take the samp out and listen to the beat i know u can't take the samp out but just listen to the drum patterns bass what ever pretty sure you will say the beat is still ill

To me, Dr. Dre is the best. He fuckin defined a decade - the 90's. How many freakin producers can say they had rnb producers bitin his ish (Teddy Riley for example) And he's still going. Dre broke more artist than preemo. Nobody including preemo can say they did that. Not taking anything away from him, but Dre got underground ish he made thats fat and club ish - and radio ish. Preemo can't do that people - HE HASN'T DONE THAT. HE NEVER ROCKED AN ENTIRE DECADE AND HAD SCORES OF NIGGAS BITE HIS STYLE - NO GRAMMY AWARDS. NOT EVEN A SOURCE AWARD. IT'S A REASON JAY-Z AND NAS AIN'T MESSIN WIT HIM TOO MUCH. HE'S NOT DIVERSE ENOUGH TO MAKE A RADIO HIT THAT CAN GARNER THE RESPECT OF THE STREETS AT THE SAME TIME
