Oh man that doesn't look good. I just listened to it and it's a total ripoff. Whether this guy's telling the truth or not, I don't know but those tracks sound the same. In a way I hope it is true, so it will show the public how shady things are in the music industry, even for multi-million dollar music producers.

The neptunes stole some of my shit before too .... I just chalked it up as a loss .... I even had Snoop and the Eastsidaz steal a song before ..... thats just the way the industry work ...because they alter it just enough where you won't win if you sue them .... If its not the same exact beat... instuments, melody, etc .....then its pretty hard to prove your case even with copyrights and lawyers. I've been through it all

Seems pretty real. One wonders if it will ever make sense to hand your beats of to big producers etc in hope of selling something when many stories now have told that they just rip your beat instead...having vocals over your beat won't even help seeing they alter it and everything.
I guess the only way ahead is being the producer on some amatuer stuff and hoping it makes it big, thereby giving you a name.

yes it was copyrighted ....It doesn't do any good because they alter the beat to where you can't really prove they stole it ... like the example
http://buzzbang.redcarp.com/orajin_proof.mp3 .......it definitly sounds like they stole it....... but you have to slow it down and tweak it to make it sound like they stole the beat from that kid in Canada..... it could just be a coincidence ...thats what the neptunes would say .... you really can't prove it unless it is identical .....melody's, BPM, etc .... you get the point.

Well there's your problem right there... LA from LA FACE is involved...they're known for jackin people of different sh*t... Look at TLC...they got jacked of some much loot and there was nothing they can do about it...and it looks like they've done the same to this kid...it's a shame...but you live and you learn....

Thats my point ... you just got to learn from it and realize that your sh*t must be hot if they had to steal it.... They weren't creative enough to come up with it on there own .... you were......... so you got what it takes to make a hit. Look at it in a positive way .... I know its hard but whats done is done.

Well as much as I'd like to say, I hope my man winz....because I know cats that don't understand the concept of beat jacking......there are a lot of peeps who think that either slowing down or adding some effect to a sample changes it.....that is not true.....it's the same rule that applies to say and al green track.....it doesn't matter what you do to it....if there are recognizable parts that have been used and without a doubt you know that there is an original copyright superceding it......any lawyer that know sample law will get you a win.....I hope that they get sued for theft that is foul.....and that stands as a lesson to those that steal ideas and then use them as their own......winning a lawsuit like that is easier than plagiarism......Mad did you really get a lawyer that knew what he was doing????? I don't know about that man.....if what you are saying is true then you should have had no problems winning...if you covered all of your bases....but I can't believe the Neptunes were dumb enuff to actually have made contact with the guy and then just changed the speed and added some different sounds.....

Everyone's saying how bad it is to be "beat jacked", but how do you guys think this compares to us that sample old records? Just curious to see how you all compare the 2 situations.

I'm sure if most of us could come in contact w/ the artist liek they did, we would possible see about making some type of agreement or arrangement...and not shaft the kid like they did...If I meet Al Green and made him an offer, I would follow through....

well, sampling and outright jacking are two different things. when we sample a record, we use it to make a completely new and different piece of work, unless you are kanye west and you just speed it up and put drums over it, and if you make any REAL money off of it, then you either pay royalties or get sued for whatever they can get from you. that rock group, The Verve, sampled an old record from a Rolling Stones orchestral record for their song "Bittersweet Symphony" and didnt make a dime off of it. The Rolling Stones didnt want to license the sample, but The Verve amde a better song out of it than anything mick and his bandmates have ever made...... and so the stones got a nice sum of money in return, considering the movies it has been on, the commercials and regular sales and spins. guys that get sampled by successful artists ae getting paid, some have even been saved financially off of it.

when you are a known, established artist and you jack a beat from another producer, you take all the work that they put into it and profit from that, and the original producer doesnt see a dime from it. take kanye west.... the man usually doesnt do a great deal to alter the sample and so most of them are instantly recognizeable and the original artist gets paid.

This happens all the time.

The kid can't sue because he doesn't have enough money, the Neptunes know that, and they go ahead with life while the kid whithers away from the spotlight.

If they thought he was talented, they could have given the kid a break in the music industry, just like they got a break working with some big name producers when they were younger. That would have been the right thing to do.

The way they manipulated the song, with melody on top, and the slight change in syncopated pattern of the drums would make it hard for the kid to win in court. We also don't know what documents the kid signed, or if the gear he accepted from the Neptunes would constitute a "payment" for the song. He should contest them and try to get a settlement if he wants money. They will not pay him, unless it is to shut him up and stop any negative publicity for the Neptunes.

If he would be lucky enough to have a lawyer and a publicist to donate their time to him for some percentage of a settlement (highly doubtful)he could popularise his name in periodicals and hope to get some work from people sympathising with him.

The Neptunes are quite powerful, since they are proven hitmakers, they could always threaten anyone working with this kid to stop, or the Neptunes will stop producing for that person's record company, agency etc. That occurs more often than you think.

If the kid is smart, he should capitalise on the publicity of this. For the rest of the producers on the internet, it's a lesson.

I thought the Neptunes were more talented than stealing some kids idea. It is quite sickening but done a lot.

First, if changing a beat until its not recognizable isn't jacking, then he would have never known that they jacked his ish. After listening to the two songs, its obvious that someone jacked somebody. If his story is true, he should have ample proof that the beat was his and with the help of a good lawyer, he'll get paid. The only problem I have with his story is that he seems to be taking it a little too well. Yeah he showed his disapproval with a few curse words and all that but I still get the feeling he's just giving up on it by his last statement..."I don't give a f$%# if you believe me or not"....If it were me, I'd definately give a f$%#. I would want the world to know what was going on and I'd be calling the best industry lawyer on the planet figuring out his percentage of the settlement.

The way I see it, there is a very valuable lesson in this story {whether its true or not} and that is to have your ish right before you step into some ish like this. I feel he made a BIG mistake by trying to handle his own business {Thats what the lawyers are for}. The FIRST thing you do when you start f$#@%^& with any cats in the music biz is to have your lawyer representing you. Don't wait until they screw you before you start screaming! How many times have we seen the chick running thru the forrest, trip and fall, and then, right before the bad guy gets her, SHE SCREAMS! It's too late then, her @$$ is ghost. If the HOTTEST rapper/producer in the world calls you personally at home...yeah you chat with him, hang out with him, or whatever....but when he starts talking business...tell him to talk to your lawyer. Thats keeping the business and the pleasure seperate from each other. How many of you cats make beats without a drumline? How many of you cats make beats without a melody? Getting legal help should be looked at as another tool for making tracks just like your MPC or your PC software. Protect yourself and your ish!!

man im not a sampler but i dont think sampling is the same as stealin someones beat. because if you think about it once you get a hit and you put it out and it gets all that rotation...wut else is there to do with it..unless its roc da mic then i guess you can do about 50 remixes, so all you samplers on this site and i know thats alot of ppl. i wut yall do is like an art of recycling stuff ppl forgot about into somethin ppl wana hear. but wut yall are sayin the neptunes are bein accused of is takin somethin that had no rotation or fame and usin it. its kinda like being pregnant. when you make the beat its in the woumb (however you spel that) and once it gets famous its born (yall feel me?) and if you take hte beat b4 its famous its like someone else havin your child that you walked around for 9 months with lol...(yall know wut i mean)
