Im going to be moving soon and finally the studio will have a room of its own.

First: Any suggestion about moving things in the first place?
Whats the best way to break it down and hook it all back up (Tips)

Secondly, I need ideas on putting together the new spot, Ill come back and list my gear and junk and maybe post a pic of it all piled up as it is now so you can see what Im working with.

One problem in the new place is the lack of a walk in closet, I wanna build a booth at some point.

Whats the best way to "treat" it? I saw that Ash and them have them padding I used for the booth all on the walls in their spot.

Anyway have at it lemme know!

Get a label maker, should be pretty cheap. You can label all your cables so there is no figuring out, you just plug in and go.

Box it all up, label the boxes studio that way you won't have them scattered all round the house. As you move your stuff in just put the studio stuff, well in the studio. You could do it for every room if you were that anal about it. Lets face it though the other rooms ain't as important.

Those acoustic panels don't really do a great deal, what you want to fix first is the bass. Trap that hoe up. I hear RealTraps are good, or you could build your own

Yes, write a wiring diagram of the entire setup! I have moved 3-4 times and the first few times forgot exactly how I had everything set up.. You might know your wiring better than I did so you might not need to do this but I drew pictures of my different equipment and drew wires going to the various pieces. Then I bought little sticky labels that I used to physically label my main wires. This way is makes it super easy to set everything up. Good Luck.. moving is a bitch. Also Congratulations on the new house! That is going to be very nice.. do you have a lawn mower?

good luck on that one, i just moved out of my studio and into my loft. not very happy with the acoustics, but it is so much cooler here. like for instance now, im in my boxers. that wouldave never happened before. hahahahahaha

my advice is get the regular ol' simple-ass mower without any perks. non of that sissy power assistance, grass-collecting, power-sliding BS .. just the regualr ol' cheap classic. It's not much of a workout but it is great to get out in the sun and work for an hour or so.. sweatin' out the toxins, pumpin blood into the brain makes it more creative for ill-hiphop endeavors!

Ok so here is advice for those that have to move.
Now Im sure most of you put together your studio setups yourself, but I had zero idea of that type of thing when I got all this gear.So it was done by someone else.
SO last night I was turning around things and labeling wires BEFORE I unplugged them.
Painters tape and a sharpie will do it, if somthing doesnt have writing underneath a plug, then be as descriptive as possible so when you set it all back up it will make sense to you.

After I had done all this behind my rack I unplugged everything , then I went and did it to the other end of the wires, this includes power cords and everything.
When I was putting all the wires in a bag (fuckin rats nest) I was trippin on what went into what that I had just been taking on faith cuz it all worked together!

If you have as many wires (cables actually, heavy ones) as I do and they are all intertwined you cant really trace them without using this or a similar method.

Anybody have suggestions on how to avoid the spiderweb/ratsnest when I plug it all back up?

II-
I noticed that I think I have bass traps as well in this auralex foam kit I got eons ago. Sota round lookin things that protrude out from the wall...
Any advice on how to set these things up? Im trying to do this room right as I can with what I have, there are maybe 20 of these things maybe less and I have a bunch of foam, thanks for any replies.

Get some cable ties. The ones with velcro are the best you can easily take them off and put em back they cost a little extra but they last a life time. The plastic ones are a waste if you have to remove it you need something sharp and then its useless.

Bass traps usually go in corners. But they can go anywhere depending how the sound bounces around the room.

Well the main gear is set back up and its gonna look good, now comes the part about "sound".
Bass anyone? Eveything is real bassy now. Its definately a new environment..
Again any suggestions on these bass traps and auralex foam and how and where to place these?

Look...lol...u just moved in the house right? RIGHT! I know u don't have a lot of loot to put into "professionally" treating the room. I'd say go the "poor producer" route for now.

1) Get some furniture in there. Chair, Sofa etc ect.

2) Find some cheap egg shell foam online(or where ever u can find it) and buy several yards. Put some in the corners and in various spots on the wall.

3) you can also put some carpet squares on the walls.

All these "cheap" things will absorb sound stopping it from reverberating and bouncing back to you!

As far as the booth. You could always use office dividers and gate the mic until you can bulild a booth.

And if you don't have carpet on the floor get that soon.

Yo! As far as the carpet pieces for the walls you could aways roll thru a new subdivision and catch the guys installing carpet and ask them for the excess. If not just go to home depot an buy some of the cheap carpet. You can get 12' X 18' for a bill or less. Cut that into 2' squares and place it as needed. Start with the wall opposite of where you have your gear and then various places on the other walls.

The professional stuff is cool is you're running a studio for business elsewhere. But for what we do you can get it done with most of the things I've suggested. Good luck!
