HEY FOREAL Thanks for that wealth of information. I actually went out and bought fruityloops and have been using it since feburary of 2002. But I never got into the soundfonts and most everything you we're talking about. i'm slowly starting to see how hiphop beats are created with quality, thanks for the time for that explanation

Thanks for the review RigorMortis, and I understand by what you mean "cheap" melody, this is only thing haven't mastered in FL as yet, the time and patience it takes to tweak and master the sounds to get them right - but thats why I am here at Illmuzik e'ryday to feast on the knowledge - so its a matter of time before i reach to the 'frique level, you know.

i use acid pro, it rules and it is easy to change the loops around etc.

Reason 2.5 is the sh!t.. Although I started on FL.. Reason has alot more tweaking power.. But the EQ sucks. So you'll need something like Adobe Audition(Cool Edit) or Cu Base to finalize your track.. Pro Tools is also good for recording, plus most major studios use it. So when it come time to master your work, it's as easy as bringing your Pro Tools File to the studio and letting the mastering engineer do his magic..

I have most of the programs out there, Reason 2.5, FL Studio, Cubase, Adobe Audition, Sound Forge, Acid Pro, Pro Tools, and i must say it depends where ur at in ur production if ur starting on FL And think its getting too easy and u want more, get into Reason its what most studios use and i would like it hell of alot more if i knew how to use it in a hip hop sense..

Definitely Acid is worth getting. I've got Acid and Cubase, and all the time i find myself using going back to acid because it's SOOO easy to use.

Cubase is a really powerfull program, but i definitely isn't the most user friendly program out there. I sometimes find it hard just doing easy tasks in Cubase.

I definitely haven't mastered each of these programs by a long shot, but Acid is a really nice program for looping - so it's ideal for hip-hop.

Only thing that let's Acid down is the MIDI, thats what i use cubase mostly for

cubase is mos def way more elaborate for doing the mix of your melodies but if a person doesn't have all the time to figure out what everything does, you might sound worse in the end. flstudio is great for beginners I think and has a broad range of stuff that you can get familiar with in a "newbie" type setting, and I also think that cubase or nuendo for that matter can be an excellent next step... It all depends on the person who makes the music really... also, to use cubase, you need an excellent soundcard ($300+) and a good keyboard plus knowledge of how to smack the keys just right, cuz the midi editor in cubase will have your head spinnin with it's extreme amount of options.

think about where you are first of all, are you really quite new? try flstudio, if you've been in the game awhile and want to take the next step to more professional sounding stuff, go cubase. I never liked logic, I played with it for awhile, but just didn't like the layout, cubase is easier/more powerful for me anyways.

why wonder about it! any program can be hip hop. It's up to you the producer
to know how far a program goes. and since i notice that most you use fruity, Reason, Cubase, Cool Edit and Logic. Here's some others to try: Magixs Music Studio 2004

Im pretty much down with logic due to hardware control but FL makes making hiphop quite efficient through basic programming and by the latest release there's only little features that lack opposed to cubase or logic. Check the website for the credentials.

Forget E-jay and magic music maker etc, those should be releases for PS2 ehehe

Anybody ever use a sequencer called Vision? I remember back in the day, I used to use this great program on my Mac. I loved it because I could compose an entire song without having to stop recording (kinda like the MPC) and when I was finished composing all my sequences, I could trigger them in any order, repeatedly, just like a remix. This software was so ahead of its time.

its the music in you my man, what you use is just an extension, a medium to get whats inside ya head out to the world, but if i am gonna suggest not the best but most efficient - it would be fl studio formerly fruityloops.

I do not agree with that totally. It's harder then you think to get what's inside ya head into a sequencer or something. You need to have some good samples. Some good VST plugins and most important: you have to get a hang of the software you're using. If you're unknown with producing it takes a long time to learn all that stuff and you can't just put what's in you're head into a track, I wish it was that eazy!

But then again once you know what you're doing you're absolutly wright!

i use reason i don't think its probably the easiest program to make hip hop beats on but once u've mastered it it allows you to make quality beats of any kind really ! i've used acid and fruity loops before, which are a bit more basic but i don't think it matters its what you make of it more than anything !
Im sure if you sat kanye west down with fruity and sum kid down with pro tools, its gonna be the good producer who wins not the person with the best software !

That's what I mean with knowing what you're doing, I Kayne West never used Fruity he will have a problem. (Well, maybe that's a bad example but you know what I mean).
