Gettin the Neptune sound!

First of all if your tring to get the neptunes sound your really cheating yourself and this girl by what the sound the two of yall can create. Are you a producer or a beatmaker...beat makers make beats that others want while producers just bring the heat and everybody follows cause everybody just believes in them. If you and shorty are new to each you and her need to sit down and let her Know that at this point if she dont just rock her own sound she is gona get stuck in the loop. Its good to have beats that people can only point there finger on as a neptunes beat and when you made the track you wasnt even tring to do that then its cool. It happens to me all the time people say i sound like the nepts or dre or tim but i know i dont its just cause i would make a beats that can only be compare one of theres by the consumer and what do a consumer know.

i dont think so.. if they have that as a starting point, then thats a good place if they want success. i highly doubt the final product would be a neptunes joint. i used to try and emulate certain producers and i developed my own style..... .

i respect what you are saying Cold but me and my artist we dont use name brand titles when we are looking for a kind of sound. I like a artist to tell me "i need a club beat or something thats dark ans so on" I hate tring to put myself in the shoes of other producers and try to think of something they would make cause chances are your one "biting some one else sound" two behind in the times or just riding the wave thats coming into sure". A producer should be respected for his knowledge of music. What i mean is that i didnt start buying cds once the neptunes, swizz, timb started making hits only DRE.....so i should have understanding of a formala of a club track a hood track, a deep and touching track. Do you think the clips really ask the nepts for a Tim sounding beat or do you think Em ask Dre for a Just blaze sounding beat. Im not none of those guys but hell i could be just as good and not got my first break so i should be able to ask the artist to come to me with the respect i can make whatever type of track with out you giving me a name producer.

ok! Dang Its been like two days since i checked this. Sorry for takin a min to post bak. I been doin sum research into instrument sounds like yall been recomendin. there aint been one instrument uve recommended that Ive not looked at! I havent got all this dough to invest in them tho so im savin up. My priority is a mic with boom, pop shield etc. I then need a new sound card, then after that i might try and pic up a second hand micro korg and maybe a cheap 5 octave midi keyboard controller and a get a second hand rack sound module, prob a roland JV. I wanna clear up that i aint tryin to reproduce the neptune sound. i just wanna get sum of their flavour as heard in tracks like change clothes, run into the sun, and bobby james. She has her own style and all we're tryin to do is get a hybrid. i make more classic underground hip hop and this wudnt be appropriate. but i got some unique touches. Im aimin for a style of my own but its just gettin sum of their flavour cos personally its the hybrid im lookin for. its not too rnb and not too hip hop and thats what i guess shes meanin. Its gonna work though!
Anywayz i gotta thank yall! yall been a great help! Lets try and not get into the whole love/hate neptunes thing!

i just got a production book by a guy named SA'ID and he says that he doesnt think that the Neptunes use a Korg or an MPC 2kxl.

Im not sure if i was suppose to take this as a dis or whatever but dog since you have a artist that your working with and not just getting ask for something then paid and left out of the end product i would call you a producer in the making. If i said anything that you took wrong in anyway my bad. I wasnt trying to do that. Anyways if you really want to get the flavor of the nepts. Pick up a piano book and teach yourself how to play if you dont already. The funny thing about people who ask this question(and im not talking about you) about this or that producer really dont know how to play a instrument. I mean i can listen to any producer track and break down the method it toook them to do what they did cause i dont just play by ear i can grab a sheet of of paper and write down the notes that was played. With out this knowledge i find people tring to take the same steps as some else but dont really know what it takes. Kind of like watching michael jordan play ball and do the fade away shot and then going outside and tring to do the same thing with out working on there overall shot and then fading away after they master the shot first. The neptunes are musical producers i mean if you pick some old music your moms and pops grew up on you will hear alot of the neptunes in that shyt. Its just rock a different way. Its really hard for me to break down a producer production style with out bring up the past and most of the time cats dont want to hear that part and since they dont and didnt even look at it that way at first why should i even offer the ideal. To me Curtist mayfield has a lot of what has made the neptunes so hot now just rock a lil different....get what im saying. Anyways it all luv under the sun cuz. One!

Well that guy named Sa'id doesn't Have a good ear at all because if any one who has an mpc can't tell that the neptunes are killing that note repeat function on the mpc is still a rookie.....and the triton has ever sound from grindin(clipse) Frontin(pharell) and a whole lot more..milk shake (Kelis) slave (Britney spears)

Hey reflex another thing I forgot to add is they also use alot of drums from the triton as well ...I think it's called a processed kit I think it's in the b bank...the kick the snare the locker sound the water drip sound all from grindin are in the 1 drum kit

Messenger--My statment above is not a personal attack on you and you also said the SA'ID doesn't think they use the korg or mpc......That was a bad assumtion on his part

Hey I see it like this, suppose your wackest beat made it to platinum, would you care? it's not always the track you plan on being the winner ya know....but I see what ya'll are saying about what the Neptunes or Puff might have done but it's not them who drive the demand it's the listeners and consumers.....we know that real real hiphop lives below ground and that shidd will always rock.....undergroundhiphop.com is where I like to listen, everything else is garbage....... actualy they dont use a mpc at all, haha. korg 01/w for ALL sequencing.....trust me.
there so many articails out there where chad breaks down most of the things they use, i saw some people here posted some articlals but i never botherd reading them so i dont know how good or akurite they are.

to be honest im a bit dissapointed with it

i strongly disagree with alot of what he says....most notably in the SAMPLING/SEQUENCING sections.

the book does have SOME good information (good stuff on getting your music out there n shit) but not enough for what you have to pay.
