Man please...my grams was off the chain...toted a pistol and the hold nine. I remember her and my gran pops got shot once...lol...she was so gangsta that she didn't even know she was shot. My gran dad was shot in the hand and the doc in the ER just wanted to check her over in case. Found out a bullet had went into her side!

I guess it all depends on what side of the tracks your grand parents were raised. I know it's hard for some white people to grasp but the word just doesn't carry the same meaning when the average black person uses it. Some things just can't be explained! I will say this, the N word around my way was viewed as more of a curse word if used by black people. If I said it as a kid I'd be smacked for that reason. Certain words you just couldN'T say as a kid but as an adult my elders had no problems with it. I still didn't say it around them due to the respect your elders factor. Not because of the words white derogatory meaning. I know u probably still don't understand....lmao IT'S A BLACK THANG!

ooookay lol, I just pictured you as havin a granma who was hardcore church going type, down south there are many ...nonwhite...folk who fit that description even and especially in the hood. I guess in my head it just looked funnier if you yelled that as a kid in the yard or somthin and she popped you in the back of the head.. lol

DJ kahled says it so he can spark conversation like this! And hes ..what? Palestianian? Good marketing tool!

I dont know LDB, it i think you assume alot, i know alot of cats with that same view but its not black and white like that... I know "educated " brothers who drop the N bomb all the time, and i know alot of Hood dudes that dont use the term...

As far as myself, i never said i dont use it, it still slips out from time to time espically when im pissed , but now im more aware of the context that it has.... we cant own that word anymore.. its gone beyond black american cultural context, its global now, so my thing is if you still want to use it cool , but just be aware that there is some dude in japan and china using it to... and dont get mad when you hear it from them when you just called your boy the same thing 2 min ago . becasue when they ask the age old question .....

"how come you use it amongst yourselves ,but when i say it its wrong"

what can you honeslty say? i mean ive heard the arguments "it means something differnt to us, we turned a negitve to a postive" but that dosent really answer the question why THEY cant use it, espically if they dont live in america and dont view race through the same spectrum that we do...

also where do we draw the line....
does a black dude in africa have a right to use it? His ancersters werent owned by slaves, he aint grow up in my "hood", what about a black south american or a black dude raised in the UK(i hated when they said it over there), what about a dude of palstenine decent like khalid, he aint black but does he get a hood pass casue his people have been going threw rough times? some may say he does.... what about a black dude raised around white people? or a white person raised around black people? Does a white african get a pass?

where does it stop?

I feel u and everything everyone else is saying. I guess you have to use your own judgment. All I know is I'm not yelling out "cracker", redneck or anything else like that in a room full of white dudes...lmao...I can hold my own but anybody can take a beat down faced with those kind of numbers. I would advise my white homies to do the same when around a bunch of brothers. Regardless to how some think it should be, use the wrong word in the right situation will get your ass blitz'd!

I have many black friends and co workers and it seems to be more of a joke to them than anything. I don't think I have one black friend who is offended by it unless it's used in a REAL racist way, and you know when it is really racist.. I personally don't say or like the word, not because of a hateful root meaning but because it really just sounds stupid when someone says it. Especially white kids, but I don't like it when black dudes say it either..

we won't ever be able to explain it, or understand it. Like Drama said, it is what it is.

It does have it's humerous side like when Chapelle show or a stand up comics use it to enhance jokes..... but even then that sends out the wrong message because you know some white kid is going to repeat it.lol.

I did notice a new trend where people are starting to say Nicca, and Ninja...... or Neighbor....lmao. All retarded, but still funny.
The N word isn't as racist to hear from a white person as the word "Boy".... we had a customer at my work, Old white man, and an asshole....he was callin my cashier(who was black) "Boy"....and being rude to him....that's when you can see a deep rooted racist..
As for Khaled saying it, I think it probably caught on from who he hangs around.....then eventually he started using it..... he sounds really dumb saying it. I'd rather hear him say the N word then that gay ass line "We the Besssssst".... I want to shoot him in the face every time I hear that shit.

I can tell you why Khaled uses it. His dad or mom is more than likely dark in color. If you've ever been to Puerto Rico or hung around Puerto Ricans you'd know that some of them can be as dark or darker than the average American Black man. Black Puerto Ricans are the same as Haitians. The only reason why they speak the tongue that they do is because there slave ships didn't make it to America. From there Africans mixed with the Spanish natives and bore dark skinned kids. Black is black no matter what it's mixed with! I used to date Puerto Rican woman and they use it in the same way that the average American black person does. If Benny was in this conversation he'd tell you the same. There are also diff't shades of Dominicans, look at Sammy Sosa....he's considered black in his country!

ONCE AGAIN, IT IS WHAT IT IS....

Dude.... He's not Puerto Rican. He was born in Louisiana and I'm guessing that his parents are Palestinian (as he's referred to as a "Palestinian-American" artist). I think we can all be sure that Palestinians are not black.

Regardless, they're gangster as fuck...

I didn't say he was...this is what I said "I can tell you why Khaled uses it. His dad or mom is more than likely dark in color." Then I made a comment about Puerto Ricans, Haitians and Domicans!

Believe it or not there are a lot of Middle Eastern people that are very dark skinned as well! Most of the middle east resides in a part of Original Africa. Many many countries broke Africa apart, mainly the Europeans and Asians. To this day Africans reside in a land that is not there's on paper! Sold right out from under them by the Europeans.

We da best!!!

Funny how he talks about peace, unity, and spreading the love.
(Also very humorous how the "WE THE BEST" counter has him clocked in at 9 times before interviewer's 2nd question)

Even more ironic, how he changed his previous nickname because there were tensions behind it. Hmmmmm...kind of sounds like the tension that some people feel (white or black) when they hear the "n-word."
I can't dictate what is right and wrong, just simply offer my opinion...but doesn't this seem a tad hypocritical?
What are ya'lls opinions?

i call rigor nucca everyday...and he aint even black or white (neither am i), pretty much every hiphop related friend of mine (or not) i called nucca or neger once and for those that dont know me would make it an easy move to call me racist or ignorent but our dutch social climate is just way different than in the US. We're just not offended as much by the use of a word and can level upon the person who said it -> if a neo nazi would say it you should be offended but that even pisses off a white guy overhere. If i call me bro at the studio than its just funny. I understand the way it is in the US but i have to say that Ash got it right if you're looking for a solution to this "issue". You gotta step outside you're environment and really look at what the weight of the word really is. Dutch have a way about making fun on all kinds of ethnics and races...the dutch are multiculti which implies that being dutch doesnt mean you're white.

Hope i didnt offend anyway but you can all call me the N word lol

^^^ sure, like beginning of the 19th century and not by tradition but by origin. Traditionaly we are the worst fuckers in history but in regards to africa these days you need to look at the US and the UK for fucking over a country. The netherlands these days are very multiculteral, im not saying that's a succes in every city/village but we are much more open to cultures then some other countries in that a lot of ethnics are dutch in the same way the natives are. Im indo but fuck that, its not relevant, im dutch, that's relevant -> noone will be offending me by making fun or calling me some name in regards to my bloodline, if that happens i'll reply just being more funny. We adopt words too, suriname, papiamento, malesian, mocro, english, dutch dialects whatever, you should see some coffeeshops overhere lol They're all N's playing the hiphop game, the street game unfied to city or dutch chauvinism.

Being a white person lost in the hip-hop world, I feel that by making hip hop music, going to hip hop shows, and posting on hip hop production/beat making forums, that I am treading on sacred ground. Ground that was laid by the past struggles of countless artists. I would so much rather be safe than sorry. There is absolutely no way to know if someone regardless of race/color/creed is going to be offended by the "n-word." I dare not say it. In the past, I admit, I have used the word. I'm sure almost everyone here has at least once in their life. But it's a word of unpredictable consequences. You say it to the wrong person regardless of your ethnicity or race, and you could piss off anyone regardless of ethnicity or race. I feel sick to my stomach now every time I hear white people casually say it. For white people especially, I am a firm believer that the word is completely uncalled for (regardless of intentions). It is a slap in the face to huge amount of people and a step in the wrong direction.

Hopefully, none of this was offensive to anyone, as it was opinionated. I have no right to dictate the criteria of what is socially acceptable and morally right, but c'mon, white people should not say the n-word. There's just no reason for us to say it, there's far better ways of calling someone a brother or a friend. It's just really unnecessary.

Respect to everyone though. We all come from a different place and have different opinions in perceptions.

LOL his answer to almost every question ends with "we the best", it's like his justification for everything... I found it particularly funny that he claims to be reppin new orleans and only put Birdman and Lil wayne (probably two of the WORST artists in that area) on 5 songs on his album. Like if you're going to claim to be putting on a scene at least try and find some less heard talent or feature a more diverse group of artists from the area. Not just the two biggest fags from the ninth ward. (No offense to any gay people who may be here).
