damn, that's a hard one.

I think the Chronic 2001 will always be a favorite.

the THX sound in the beginning and the sound of hydralics going crazy, and cutting from "What up Dr.Dre?" directly to The Watcher was something that gave me goosebumps when I heard it the first time.

You got it right there.

I also like that Devin Medley on his third album. It just basically brings back memories of how tight his first two albums were and got me hella juiced the first time I listened to it.

Yeah, I know you just ripped the packaging off your CD
If you like me you readin the credits right now
If you in your car, I don't care if it's winter
I want you to put all your windows down
Zone out, buckle up, let's go

Hello it's Hova; that's right young'un the wait is over
The new millineum is upon us, the album is here
Before we get into the shit, let's get a few things clear
Rappers with no relation:
there's "Seven Degrees of Seperation" and I'm Kevin Bacon
This is the murderer's version
Jigga the shit, even when he rhyme in third person
Hova the God, I should be rappin with turban
Haters can't disturb him, waiters can't serve him
Mike Jordan of rap - outside J workin
Now watch how quickly I drop 50
I don't like playin, niggaz can't stick me
Niggaz can not jam me, niggaz can't get me
Slimmy at the Rucka wanna leave and spend with me
I consistantly take em out the park like Ken Griffey
Do you believe? It's Hova the God

outkast - ATLiens is kewl really like that one, other good ones the stillmatic intro is one of my faves because of the way from the first note when that beat drops you know its guna be dope !
and another one to add is the i am intro where it plays thru a load of old nas tracks and then it has nas and jungle speaking over a beat that beat there i always thought was crazy but its never been used for anything over than that intro !

FIRST UP --- great thread i have never thought to think of the best intros, outro's etc. and this will help making an album alot !!.... (maybe we could have a interlude and outro related thread maybe also one on creating continuity with an album production and lyrics / feel / music wise)

scarface - the diary album intro (instrumental) (this album has some of the best use of orchestral sounds and classical piano (all from an eps keyboard).......

not straight hip hop but neneh cherry - buffalo stance is tight hehe

justin warfield - tequila flats (instrumental intro) jazz feel

diamond d - best kept secret (stunts blunts and hip hop album)

kurtis blow - 8 million stories

brand nubian - word is bond

coldcut and steinski - lesson one (payoff mix)

intelligent hoodlum - intro from the self titled album

(here are some of the lyrics)

"I had the mind that was designed for crime
Now I'm two seconds away from the big time
In the fast lane your life goes fast
It's time to take a journey into Tragedy's past
when I was one adopted by Michael Chapman
This was years before I started rappin'
My father held a scholarship for a year
but then he died and so did his career
He left his son and soon to be wife
he died, and that was the end of his life
It's just not fair that he couldn't live through
But as I grew, I fell into the same trap too
But I lived the life that he couldn't see
He died a 18 and that's the age of me
I escaped the cage where your brother is your enemy
and cops turn misdemeanors into felonies
Playin' the game the stakes are a lot
either you're strung out on drugs, in jail or get shot
So I take the pain and put it in a song
cause some of my brothers didn't last this long
Life to them just didn't seem important
as I watched their bodies get stiffer in the coffin
A young black target for someone to shoot ya
Hoodlum's the past, Intelligent is the future"

these aren't really quite my favourite just intro's i remembered off the top of my head.... many style of different styles of intros represented here

the outro for the album i mentioned is nuthin nice either, its over the same beat i liek the lyrics on this better than the intro
[Jay-Z]
Who ever thought young Shawn Carter would change the game?
Used to rap to the raindrops off my window pane
Duckin the plain cops, pushin indo and 'caine
At the kitchen table late night, no pen, just my brain
First album niggaz love me cause they thought I was poor
Guess I'm successful; industry don't love me no more
Well I'm the same nigga from your corner, bubblin raw
Skully tilted, pants saggin, damn near touchin the floor
And I come with do-rags to your so-called awards
T-shirt with my chain out like fuck y'all all
Retrospect ain't been the same since I lost my dad
He's still alive, but still fuck you, don't cross my path
A&R's had me feelin like moss in the drab
So I turned the league out with "Reasonable Doubt"
Get your CD's out, let's go, song for song
I'm the illest nigga doin it til y'all prove me wrong
Do you believe?
It's Hova the God, uhh, uhh, uhh..

Nas always has great intros. the stillmatic one is nice, but u also have the I Am one where all his best tracks are mixed together and the intro off Streets Disciple is tight too.

the intro from Illmatic is another, i love that beat that comes in (the lo-fi one). then it kicks straight into NY State of Mind.
