Unless you're dropping vocals 16 tracks is plenty....it's actually over kill imho when it comes to hip hop/rap. On the music side most are 10 to 12 tracks max. Mix down some tracks and bounce 'em to free up tracks if u need them especially if you do a lot of stacking. That's what the mix engineer would do. If you have 3 kick drums layered he's going to level them joints, apply various compression and eq for each and bounce them down to 1 track to free up room and to save on his cpu for the madd things you want to do to your vox.

If you feel like purchasing this is a step back or a step over I can see you not being interested. Unless you want every little nuance on it's own track 16 is more than enough. This is just the first run...I'm sure they already have one with 24 to 32 tracks on the back burner that's probably a simple update. The virtual joint that you can buy may have unlimited tracks which could compensate if you think 16 won't get it. I'm definitely going to check this at Guitar Center when it drops. lmao MPC dudes are fickle when it comes to something new that may take a stab at there baby's!!!!! I know...i use to be like that as well..........

BUT NOTHING'S REPLACING ABLETON EXCEPT AN UPGRADE...MUAHHHHA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA nothing I tell ya...nuttttiinnnnnnng

cool site, damn you did that just for fun!!

lol

well, I do sites all day long man. It's part of my side job so...when I see something I like I usually just build a site around it.

Helps me gather all the info in one place, and helps provide a resource for the community lol.

glad you like it yo!

Hahaha, ableton is the truth man...it's the software that single handedly made me look at my 4000 a lil sideways lol. It hasn't been on in ages.

the virtual has the exact same setup as the hardware, so it's only 16 tracks. With the pad mutes and such, it's actually not that bad, and you can control each pad/sound with it's own pan, volume, envelopes, etc.

The software is an exact replica, so you can switch between the two with no issues, software, to hardware, back to software, or whatever.

Yea i'm sure for a sampled beat 16 tracks is plenty, but there's always that exception; it just doesn't feel goood to be limited :)

but i'm def not shitting on this equipment just yet. and you're right about bouncing tracks down, its not like we don't have to do that with other equipment already

I think it just depends, cuz i work solely with samples and I can use up 16 tracks personally.
I agree with LDB, its usually overkill to go beyond but like Sanova said limitations are no good.

I think the most important selling points are the max polyphony, accepted sample rates, available tracking options/assignable outputs, what the converters are like, and how true the pads respond in order to try and make a fair comparison to a base model MP like the 1000. The OS differences are worth considering too but if those particular things could easily beat out the MP I think it would be worth considering more.

Just for future reference, i love my MPC but I dont think its constructive at all to argue on its behalf against other hard/software counterparts. Rather, i care more about what will help me advance the production of my music with similar aesthetics and workflows. So if I say anything thats skeptical its only because I want the best features for what i do if you feel me?
Remember I come from 6 1/2 yrs of being a hardcore Reason and Ableton user too.

I feel you! Like I said, if it seems like a step back and not forward it's really not worth it. For me and ole Ableton...it's definitely many steps back! But of course I'm always looking for new toys....cause that how I do....lol

the specs i posted on page 3 says 8 pad banks per trk... i would think that can be used to compensate the lack of more trx... its not gonna make me replace my RS at all... that machine is not missin much... but im sure its alot faster to use, and i cant help but love the portability... whats gonna piss me off is if the Big 3 comes out with shit to compete with it... ive been waitin for a new RS for EONS!!!

I'm actually SURPISED Slik likes this joints potential. A lot of it's sound arsenal seems to be geared toward dirty south style music. From what I've heard anyway. I see why the hip hop junkies here on ILL haven't paid much attention to this thread. THE BEAT KANGZ are southern boys and they ain't afraid to say so every chance they get...peep the vids. lol, I see it's potential way past dirty south style beats though...I guess Slik does as well.

i agree with relic. i aint saying you cant tweak whatever sounds you want to make em better or worse. but... those beats on the page are weak as fuk. you would think that they would pay or endorse some super producer to bang out some ILL shit for that? who knows right?
"watch out slik", i wouldnt go selling your favorite piece of gear for something you havent touched yet...
and another thing this is sorta the first generation of this...
