Great Job Guys! Congrats to 2GooD Productions! Lots of cool sounds, I didn't put my best stuff on for the first round because I didn't know what to expect from the competitors. I prefer to be given a theme, I do better in those competitions. Anyway, music is from the soul. It's all good! Keep on rockin!

On compression...Attack, Release, Ratio's, what compression was actually doing and when it should be used.
The mixing stage is far far more important than the mastering stage and a treated environment with good monitors with a flat frequency response to guide your mixing choices is essential for consistent results and an environment that tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

But like @Iron Keys said, mix engineering is its own profession and art, separate from music composition theory, with a few crossovers but not really that many. You can go your whole life and not waste time to learn mixing when you could be knocking out beats, then paying a professional to do it for you.
Personally, Ive always been a broke ass, so I learned it so I wouldn't have to pay somebody else to do it, but Im certainly no expert and when the time comes and Im making some decent money from my catalogue, then I will invest in professionals for the best results.

I wanted to make music, I learned it, I wanted to build a website, I learned it, I wanted to mix, I learned it. I dont have an environment to master, but Id like to add that to my skillset at some point, when I have the equipment and space to do it. Im a fairly intelligent guy, or so my peers tell me, Im capable of learning these things, not everybody is. Its about knowing yourself and your own strengths and weakness and either working on those weaknesses, or paying somebody that already has.
Thank god you have the NHS last thing we need is 2good learning to do his own heart surgery :ROFLMAO:

Having a dope beat only to be overshadowed by a shitty mix is not productive to me personally.

A great song is a great song. Whether it's a fully polished top mix engineer producer and mastering house job, or recorded on phone and just piano.

A song ('beat') that hits will hit.

That's not just my thoughts and feelings, but that of A&Rs expressed to me first hand, and elsewhere - I think Timbaland may even have said it in his masterclass.

Your shit rocked hard, especially that change about a minute in. You had my vote. @hosie Great work too. @Armani feeling that! @2GooD Productions congrats!

I'm actually surprised to hear this from you.

Pleasantly surprised!!!
On this Im not talking in a battle context, but in general. Like an A&R can spot talent without needing a perfect mix, a song doesnt need to be mixed great to be a great song, the content and information is there in the song, to make that great song timeless then yes moulding the information that is there into something of an eargasm by use of a great mix is important for a polished finished product.

In a showcase context...
When Im trying to guess a fellow beatmakers level by just listening to their beats I try to aim my feedback in a way that I guess they are ready for, try to keep them on the right path according to me based on my own journey in beat making, because I can only of course speak for myself and from my own experiences.
