Inrcty gotta good point. What alot of people dont realize is that the rap that most of "yall" came up on is out. "yall came up wearin tite pants and all them others things (i dont know all of em but "yall" do) and like inrcty said if you dont like the music then dont listen to it. if you dont want to go and buy old school rap then theres plenty of places to download it on the internet. "yall" gotta understand that its a new generation comin up and rap makes more than enough sense to "US"

I too used to be narrowminded when I was younger, hating and complaining about commercial Hip-Hop and how we should keep it "real" and stay "true" to its roots...until I realised how the negativity didn't help me do shit, got with the program and used anything that I can find positive from it...and as Madscientist said, every minute you guys complain and bitch is a minute I'll spend boosting my career.

Oh and Split, you kinda brought that whole thing on by yourself, no matter how what you wrote was meant. Your usual way of addressing people is less than nice etc, so we can't help it if we will always interpret what you write negatively.

((suggest people get with it. Learn about it ... if you want shit like Nas' Illmatic to come out now thats not going to happen. Hip Hop is different now... that shit is played))

so in your opinon its played to actually produce a good album, one wit talent and that we should let all this bullshit rap slide correct?

((I'll be the one thats making money and moving forward ..... because every minute you spend complaining thats time I'm putting in to making Hip Hop better))

been doing it your way for ten years? how much money you made so far..?

bottomline hip hop to me is about lyrics its what RAP is,granted…the production in todays market is ill it really is but tell you the gods honest truth if I wanted to listen to really ill production really talented production id listen to something called ummmmm….techno, house, trance…not just loops…..so that’s why im a lil p oed now most of you are right in saying that bitching doest help and even if the way things are set up are the way they are you still don’t have no excuse to not get up and p ut your game down, but, Things need to be addressed cause a great man once said evil prevails when good men do NOTHING…(think it was ben franklyn ) so listen up partners if you mad about the current state of hip hop and want to declare war on the people who are fueling it do 2 things 1. get into a postion of power 2. and do something about it….

I think id be quite neat to draw the lines btw those who rep real hip hop and those who accept or promote commercial nonsense, perhaps another east vs west thing can be born again…but this time for positive change

Mr_Black, I'm sure MadScientist did not refer to the actual quality of the album but referrred to the fact that the style Nas had back then, or anybody else at that point in time, is now old and 'played'.

YES !!! thats what I was referring to ..... I guess when you speak the truth, it sparks something in people to comment on it. Which is good ... but MR_Black I never said ...... "its played to actually produce a good album, one wit talent and that we should let all this bullshit rap slide" ...
thats your interpretation of it ..... which is wrong. That style is played out (Nas' Illmatic).... but people want to hold on to it. (why? I have no clue) Thats like saying Run DMC had classic albums and people need to keep making albums like that..... with that same style. (Granny Goose Rhymes) ...... Thats style is played out too. Same with Tribe Called Quest and all that shit ...... If you want to make albums that sound like that ......thats cool .....BUT I'm gonna let you know you'll be broke and struggling ........... probably never make a dime. Thats on you, go ahead and "KEEP IT REAL" REAL BROKE and narrow minded.

As far as the 10 years I've been doing this ......... its hard to calculate all the money I've seen ......... but aproxx. $16,000 .......thats not a lot but its something ... I've made a profit ........have you ????????? But honestly, why does it matter what went in my pocket??? Why ???? I suggest YOU go to a "Techno, House, Trance etc.... chat forum" where you can hear some "talented production" and get out of here ...... <---(Mr_Black)--->since obviously your referring to people on this site as not being as talented as Techno producers. Things DO need to be addressed..... a great man did say evil prevails when good men do NOTHING .... and to me bitching and complaining is EVIL so what your saying is maybe we should do something about your bitching and complaining and get the evil out of here. I'm done with this shit .... This is a waste of my time. This will be the last reply that I make on this thread ....... I can do something more productive with my "VALUABLE" time. I suggest you do the same.

technology helped hip hop get commercial too tho. just a lil bit (in my opinion) as it moved from the analog stage to digital you just cant keep the flows the same if the beats are changin, soo basicly wut everyone has to except is that...SHIT CHANGES...people change the weather changes just about everything changes and there is always a point in anythings cycle where some one doesnt like its point in the cycle and others do. but wether we like it or not you cant stop it from changin

The only thing i can say about all this is that its the people in charge of the radio's fault. Good shit will just not get put on the radio unless the lyrics are sturctured in a certain way or the beat is a party beat. It wasnt like that before. Now it is. If you dont have some party dance hiphop song you will not get play on the radio. Also if you're from the bay area you will not get play on the radio. No matter how dope your shit is. The bay has no love for the bay. Fuck the radio.

I just want to know peoples Ideas of good music..I know to each his own but I've checked out a few things that some people on here are really into like J-live little brother and others and I kinda liked what I heard from little brother but that j-live cat wasn't impressive at all I checked out some el p stuff as well and it was decent....But just because it's on the radio doesn't mean it's trash because there is a reason that a lot of things aren't on the radio

Not neccesarly with that same style but that same innovation

No, you can still make a good amount of income and not be commerical, I can name a host of artist who are so, you know brainstream you sound like you assume its either commerical music or nothing, which is not the case and im not being narrowmindend, your being narrowmindend assuming the only way to make money off of rap music is by the shit they play on MTV

I never said that, Bottom line i was saying is I dont listen to a rap record for a beat YOU listen to a rap record FOR RAP, the beat is nothing more then a background for rap, If I wanted to listen to a record strictly for instrumentals they have genres for that, hence I mentioned Techno, regardless what you may think RAP MUSIC is about RAP... Not about beats...

name a rap record.. that's a hit... with no beat.... none....

you need the beat... it give's you the rythm you need 2 ryhme 2...

without the beat there would be no hip hop... there would just spoken word... poetry

it's sems like you got a problem with anybody who sells records...
if there selling records... there good... that's it....

if you suck... no one wants 2 buy your shit...

damn yall wild wit dat im fed up ish. i started makin beats so i could have somethin to rap to. thats how i got good. nobody wants to rap to a wack beat so i had no choice but to make mine halfway decent. and i modeled my style around the hits (thats the only thing i really listen to are the hits). aint nuthin wrong with people liking something you produced so much that they call the radio station 24/7 and request it. thats what yall should be trying to get to. it makes you HAVE to be consistent because yo stuff will get played out and people will want something else to ware out. well i dont know bout yall but thats a something ive been shootin for all my life and im a marksman i dont miss. yall should jump on da train...

I'd like to know who didnt go commercial that made enough money to live off of? Maybe if you live in omaha but try that in california where the average price of a 1 bedroom place is 1000$ a month.

whats enough to live off of? everyone thinks yu need to have millions to live..... for those of you who place your artistic vision above the money, you need to realize a few things:

1- you will need to be willing to go independent and self promote....
2- which means you had better be able to do live shows and develop a fan base through that......

... because major labels are looking to make money off of you. bottom line- you work to keep them rich, and if you dont keep them rich they have no use for you. i dont care how nice your lyrics are, how skilled a producer, because there are chingy's out there with half your talent and musical knowledge who is 10 times more marketable than you, and this guy will get the deal every time. the suits arent concerend with your vision unless your vision has dollar signs dancing in, above and around it.

so whats enough money to live off of? how much do you need? see, some of you need to be a little more realistic here..... you dont need to go 3 time platnum to have good money. you can go independent and sell 50,000 units of a self produced and promoted cd and walk away with $150,000 in your pocket...... granted, thats a tall order and A LOT of hard work to do on your own, but it is very possible when you do live shows and do everything yourself..... which means you could quit your day job (give two weeks and dont burn your bridges!) and focus on music while living modestly for a year or two......

i know something like this isnt as easy as it sounds, but you have to look at it this way: if you managed to move that many on your own, you could then negotiate a distribution deal..... or even catch the attention of a smaller label in your region, and i imagine you would have made a ew connections by this time anyways.....

the thing is getting outside the box that tells us how things DO work and are SUPPOSED to work and be bold enough to try things differently. the guys that do that are the guys who wind up with REAL money.

and..... uh.... the beat is a very big part of the song. you dont listen to hip hop for the beats, or for the words, you listen to it for the combination of the two....... one without the other just doesnt work.
