Another Message To The New Guys

first off, its great to see the site growing and there has been a surge of new beatsmiths on the board, and we have gotten great reviews from you guys..... i have heard it said by more than a few that his was the best site they had seen yet, and thats a good sign that us, and our staff especially, are doing something right.

NOW....
if all youwant to do is get your lil 40 posts and enter the Beat This! comp, go elsewhere- that is a membership perk, and this ISNT a forum thats here just to get your tracks heard, although that is a PART of what Illmuzik is here for- but its really for its members. its about establishing community, and if you dont want to be a part of the community, please go elsewhere. :finger:

SECOND..
the battling is a great thing; its a foundational piece of our culture. but again, that isnt the emphasis- thats why we have the two comps.
IF YOU FEEL A NEED OR WANT TO BATTLE, remember that you dont need to badmouth someone in the forums to call them out- or even call them out at all in a forum; you can pm someone and issue a challenge, and i am sure Fade would be more than happy to set up a thread in the showcase. you can battle without there having to be an actual conflict.

contribute what you can financially! this is a challenge issued to everyone on the site, old and new- myself included. its time we begin to take ownership of this site. there have been a few major ideas brought into play, but in order for this site to REALLY take hip hop to the next level- at far as getting heard, having resources available, things like that- we will need MONEY rolling in to accomplish that. i would venture to say that 5 bucks a month apiece would go a very long way....

and lastly.... to the new guys, have fun! share whatever knowledge you have! give feedback when you post a beat of your own, show respect to the older heads, and do a search for questions like "whats better, hardware or software?" or "whats an mpc?", because these types of questions have (usually)been answered somewhere in here.

if you have a problem you cant solve and there is no answer already on here, pm God and vitaminman (just playing!)... but seriously, ask away: we are here to help each other.

Damn Truth! Didn't figure anyone to speak out like this except me. Everything you said was right on point so there's no need for me to add to it, except for the money part. I was going to post something soon about that anyway.

Here's the deal guys. You all know (at least I hope you do) that I've been running this site for about 3 years now and everything's been paid out of my pocket. Now that IllMuzik is so big, I'd like to offer more to the members here but I'm very limited in my webhosting account so I need to upgrade it but I can't because I don't have the cash for it.

The way I see it is, what's $5? Not every month, but just $5. We all spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on equipment, cd's and records, yet people say they're broke when it comes to donating to this site. If you donate, I'll use it to upgrade my webhosting account and offer you guys more features. Why did I take down the Audio section? Not enough space/bandwidth. Why are the Beat This! Competitions only in RealPlayer format? Not enough space/bandwidth.

We have almost 1000 members now, and if only 100 of you were to chip in $5, it would make a HUGE difference to me. I'd be able to upgrade my account and have more services/features here for everyone and maybe even have some sort of premium section.

Also, with the compilation CD right around the corner, I get the feeling that when it comes time for everyone to pre-order a copy, most of you will be like "Aww sorry dawg, I'm broke as a joke right now". Don't take this the wrong way but you guys have to realize how much time and effort I've put in to this and I've only now received a few bucks for all this work. Some days I don't feel like doing anything on this site because I'm kind of discouraged sometimes.

It's one thing to love IllMuzik and want to "be down" and all, but if you really want to be down, all I ask is that you donate a few bucks.

And I was talkin' to my man nas2000xl I said that to him that this is probably tha only forum I'll donat money to help keep it run cuz we need this. I haven't been it yet but believe me Fade you'll see it soon. We all need to step and keep this hip hop community runnin'. This is part of da revolution, da change that tha mainstream lost, hungry for this muzik not tha money. And we have that here. So why not help them out on cost. Lets keep this realness we have here. I've been reading alot finding out what's goin on wit the site, when things get rolling and warmed up, I'll for sho chunk you some dollars to support the site. I've been making tracks for a while so it's interesting to see a site like this. I can only up my game or shine here. I see all the warnings for the newbies, does that mean there's alot of silly folk runnin around here! I'll keep my eyes open for the distorted. Although I'm new, there is no newbie mentallity. I've been making beats and online for years, and I've seen all the bs you've seen here and more in other places. I'm serious about the soul and art and process of making music. I will always try to be humble, respect-loss is justified by actions.
