    SHOWCASE: March 2-9, 2025

@BNNBMB The intro, while short, does a great job of getting your attention. I really like the old school vibe with the drums and vocal chops. You hit all the nostalgia buttons especially with the echoey chops. Aside from maybe a slightly brighter mix, this is really cool! @JM. I quite like...

In a beatmaking slump. Any advice?

Sorry, I had a shower thought after I made my original reply... ...This is more of a "philosophical" approach and are a couple ideas I've also borrowed from my corporate life and self development books I've read over the past couple years. Outcome Goals vs. Identity Goals - "Atomic Habits" by...

In a beatmaking slump. Any advice?

I like what others have mentioned in terms of changing genres. In addition I like to do a couple other things. 1. Break Up Your Session If you're like me, you may feel that all or the majority of the beat needs to be made in one session. This all or nothing approach to music is often where I...

    SHOWCASE: February 16-23, 2025

@Nebulune I really like the ambient/atmospheric intro and how you kept that going as you introduced more elements. Musically, this has a lot of emotion. Songs like this are testament that simple can be highly effective. While there are a few mix, and FX, decisions I would've done differently...

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos

Thanks! Man, it is a crazy amount of work! and I share your sentiment around burn out and the time/energy it demands of you to keep producing at a high volume AND high quality. And yeah, my 1 minute vides have about 5 minutes of video that gets edited down. If I'm recording myself playing 2...

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos

Definitely can see where the frustration is coming from. Music making/producing definitely has it cycles of peaks and troughs - and they vary in cycle from one aspect of the process to the other. Sound design is going well, but making music isn't. Music making is going well, but mixing is shit...

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos

Thanks @Mike Chief I was a bit hesitant to make this post, but I'm glad you found some value from it! To your point, "just fucking do it" can get you very far with unexpected, yet pleasant results. I just dropped you a follow on IG as well.

    SHOWCASE: February 2-9, 2025

This one was fun to make but a bit challenging. The piano sample is originally in 3/4 time so I had to be a bit more clever with the chops. The horns were from a different record and required quite a bit of trial and error in terms pitching to get them to blend well. With the piano being so...

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos

Thanks man! I know it's a long read, but I figured there's got to be at least one person who can take away at least one thing from documenting the process.

    SHOWCASE: February 2-9, 2025

@thekoolkrush This is a very well produced track. Flow is dope and matches the energy and vibe of the beat perfectly! I really like this beat! I don't typically comment on lyrical content, but this is deep. This beat could've easily been a "brag and boast" type track but it's got more...

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos

My Jamuary Attempt: What I Learned Making Beat Videos For 2025, one of my new year’s resolutions was to commit more to my music. One way I planned to do so was by attempting #Jamuary (making a post every day for the month showcasing you making music). This commitment wasn’t simply to make...

    SHOWCASE: February 2-9, 2025

It's been a while since I've sampled some vinyl. Found a few decent pieces from a record I wasn't expecting much from. Even the kick came from the record. Added some bass guitar to fill out the low end.

This is DOPE! It's funny, when you have a favourite song, it's hard to imagine it with a different vibe. This fits, feels natural, but still shifts the vibe completely (in a good way). I'm a start dropping you more requests lol

Had to step away from music and the Jamuary vids for a bit there. Work and family obligations popped up. Trying out some new camera settings, colour grading, and a new title card.

@DJ Excellence This is my favourite of your more recent remixes. I'd love to hear you flip Triboro by Big L. @JM. This is very unique. I personally don't go for the asymmetric type of drums, but the samples are cool and the chops make it interesting. Curious to see what you can come up...

    Mixing advice? Speakers(monitors) vs headphones

Soooo... ...I'm defintely the contrarian here, as I do everything, including mixing in headphones. I don't claim to have the best mixes, but they're not trash. I do have a decent pair of studio headphones (Sennheiser HD 600) which I think helps. While I do have a pair of cheap monitors (IK...

    SHOWCASE: January 12-19, 2025

Was trying to get an early Def Jux/Aesop Rock type of beat going. I like the blend of boombap style drums, synths, and guitars from that era of El-P and Def Jux in general. The only thing I didn't really get, so I didn't leave in were the janky, off-quantized drums. I think I got a bit of it...

    SHOWCASE: January 12-19, 2025

@TONEzEP1K You really do know how to capture that hood anthem vibe in your music. I like how it bounces between a mid 2000s style anthem vibe to that darker modern trap/drill sound. I think you may have overdone it a bit with the distortion/bit crushing, but definitely cool.

    SHOWCASE: January 12-19, 2025

@TONEzEP1K The intro reminds of a David Banner/ TI type joint. That synth that comes in at 0:16 is interesting, it may be a bit too up-front in the mix, but cool addition. I really like the use of choirs and strings. They add an epic, grand, and cinematic quality to the whole beat. If I could...
