    Formula Of Beats

Ok, I can help you... but I still think listening to beats will help you better than anything someone can tell you. Thing is, my vision of what a east coast beat should sound like will influence the way I make a east coast beat. If you listen to Hi Tek and Scott Storch, well, they both did East...

    Another damn MPC question.......

Alright, I dont know if it's the same thing, and if it is, I didnt quite well understood the answer, so here goes. My friend bought a MPC1000 (he wants to start making beats) and a lil midi controller. That was all find and dandy! Now the thing is, he bought a Workstation... a Yamaha PSR1500...

    Formula Of Beats

Well, let me rephrase what I meant by "totally different"... now, in my opinion, part of beatmaking is experiments and failures. It's actually how people naturally learn shit. If what you call "formula" is what instruments are used in specific styles, I'd just say... well LISTEN and LEARN...

    Formula Of Beats

^^^^I fully understand your point, but thing is, beat making is not acting. Acting is taking another persona, characteristics that are not yours. But beatmaking (to some) is an art, meaning it's a reflection of your persona... of YOU, in a way. Giving a fomula for beat making would be like...

    Beats sounding the same

There are several tricks like that...^^^^ Breaking a carrot (sick rimshot) Hitting a wall (boomy kick... depending on the wall....) But that wont really change the feel of a beat that much IMO

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Yeah man... synths. Then I could also say Fender Rhodes Strings (depending on the specific sound of the string... not a long one, with a slow attack... But the piano is definitely THE most versatile instrument there is...

    Spectral Analyser...

Oh well, the thread changed place... but actually, even if I'm using and talking about the Fruity Spectroman, most DAW got spectrum analysers, so what I'm gonna say here can be used in any other program. Not only FL Studio... my explanations are specific to FL users, but you can actually do most...

    Beats sounding the same

The foundation of a hard hitting beat is the drums... make sure they sound tight, that the snare/clap sounds tight, and that the kick hits hard, and make it interesting (or real REAL simple, but HARD) Also, the rest of the instruments should accompany the drums... not over powering them.... but...

    Spectral Analyser...

There is no perfect mix look, but in general, most of the spectrum should be active... on the master track, the spectrum should be full. mmmh... no one actually answered the question... So no one uses spectrum analyzers?
