    homestudio question

it is a single room behind the kitchen. very solid old building, thick walls and ceiling. only young/alternative people living here, and they are kind of "sturdy". just dividing the room is not an option, since i have a very sensitive condenser/tube mic and i can hear people breath on the other...

    homestudio question

im planning to convert one of the rooms of our shared appartment into a semi-professional recording studio. im saying semi-professional, because the focus will be on realizing an acceptable quality of vocal recordings and mixes of beats for further processing/mastering in a professional studio...

tracks that realy left your jaw hanging wide open

so i know, this might look like the occasional "your top five tracks" post, BUT id like to know whether anyone can convince me of anything fatter than this. its one of those tracks i come back to every now than, to just re-live that vibe that made me love that music in the beginning or just love...

    Relationship between Gear and Creativity?

maybe there is no need to re-invent the wheel. especially in hiphop. i see the envelope being pushed in electronic music / nujazz, all that uptempo & breaksstuff. it sounds way more comprehensive than it did a few years before. but hiphop is simple. and i dont know if theres that much...

    WWW ruined hip-hop?

nice! listening to myself i realise 2 that i start sounding like my parents did just a few years ago. "thats not music, we had music, things were better back than...blah bla blah". so we're not judging things by what they are, but by what they mean to us it seems. @manguino: you cannot deny...

    WWW ruined hip-hop?

thats just a temporal correlation, downloading did not CAUSE quality to drop. contrary, i know far more skilled artists and fantastic albums ever since napster and audiogalaxy. but theres a point with labels not supporting arts but rather working for a quick buck. they have to, due to this...

Once a top producer, Storch's musical empire falls

too much money is a curse. 1. relationships change over night, i mean, even if you stay cool, people around you will have the feeling to be begging when you give them some or be mad at you in some sense if you dont. 2. you know how it is with new stuff. its kool as long as you dont have it. once...

Clearing Samples (for the underground artist)

i guess as long as your not buzz enough to have labels clear stuff for you, nobody will give a fuck anyway. but, what i was always wondering, you think guys like o.c./street smartz/lyrikul etc did always clear their samples? you know, mcees and producers with a name in the scene but with no...

    O.ba.ma

need help on the drums for the beat that i made...

@2good: sure, i see chopping up and rearranging breaks as important as self-made drums, but youll gain a better understanding of it once you get the feeling of how they are to be played

    dc offset removal

ehrm...aight:) well than sorry again, i get your point ...so this would undermine the need to fix dc offset on every single track of a project, since you cant be sure whether your samples, drums etc were recorded without, right?! ill have a look at your older post later on

need help on the drums for the beat that i made...

co-sign, i fell into that habit and didnt realy program drums for a long time. get a midi controller or a sampler (if u havent), cut out some bars from tracks you like and play along. that way youll get a feeling for drums after some time and youll do it right automatically

    dc offset removal

i have this info from a book for aspiring engeneers and home producers. a friend of mine gave it to me and said he had worked by it for the last few months. the dc offset removal proved to be the most sound improving topic to him, he says he achieves higher volumes in perception without...

    dc offset removal

i just heard about how important dc offset removal is. these low frequencies are hardly to be recognised by the ear, but very hard to be reproduced by audio software and -hardware devices. so they eat up any playback devices' capacity and make your mix sound weak and fray out when turning up...

    The Roots..Rising Down

they are playing aprox. some 250 shows a year constantly since '89 and produce their albums in between. black thought says they never were able to transfer their live qualities to their albums. you have to catch one of their live shows to understand the roots dilemma i guess. worldclass top...
