Making a battle/diss beat
All in the ears of the beholder IMO, but the cliche "expected" sound tends to be aggressive and angry usually since it is a battle and thats usually what people want. Really depends on the battle in the end. -

Soley based on my opinion - YES. Ive owned Stanton DJ Pro S2000's, Sony MDR V700's, and of course the old faithfuls - Sony MDR 7506's which always prove to be the most reliable in my experience. AKG K240's are good too and ive used them in the studio several times but i always hated the ear... -

Dude cop some Sony MDR-7506's! Ive bought other phones in the past such as the DJ version of the 7506's and they always accentuate the bass and treble too much resulting in a bad reference if your actually trying to mix in them. What u want is something thats gonna be as flat as u can get and... -

Ok well first, if you were able to record into your computer before you formatted, you may be missing a driver necessary for the sound to work properly then possibly? I would check the instal/boot discs that came with your laptop for system drivers and install any that u haven't yet. But yeah... -
Turntables
I use the Art Dj Pre II on a daily basis with my crappy Stanton Str8-50 and it works fine, I get real plenty of gain from it. I guarantee theres better quality out there but it does the job. -

1st - what are u recording into? I thought u still needed an interface? If your just plugging straight into the laptop thats no good man - your gonna render horrible results that way. U just gotta wait it out and cop the MBox like ur planning on. From what it sounds like, your gain structure...
