Probably cellphones, missing all the major sounds
In some cases, if you're a good mix engineer, this could be an advantage if you've got your translation right.

Tho I knew a few great tracks that really lacked on lesser playback systems.

But yeah the issue here can be, if you've got someone with a basic ear, listening back on a less than ideal device, you dunno what kind of votes you gonna get. That's before all the other politics.

So best get your beats and mixes as great as possible!

Slate VSX

For mixes/beats with poorly mixed high or low end I'm checking the translation too, to see how negatively this would affect them. This can further work against you.

Someone had a nice low bass but you can barely pick it up. Definitely going missing on most systems.

I'm also awarding points for effort that's gone into the creation if I need another category to split hard decisions.

Agreed that in some rare case the cellphone can be an advantage, hell even some of my beats I've had made in the past sounded better on cell.

Sadly the thing here is that creativity is clearly not the most popular aspect in most battles and although I think it's a shame because I really like uniqueness/creativity still I do understand and respect the tastes of everyone. Some will prefer simple sounds/patterns, hell of repetitive concept as long at it sounds 'good'. Others like me will always put creativity first but of course it needs to still sound good.

I was surprised about some of the results of round 1 tbh. Some beats sounded good but were really lacking in some aspects like (sorry for my english) notes not on tempo/delay etc.

But hey its all about personal preference and im ok with it.

My rant is done now :ROFLMAO:

Well I've even had times where I've done most my voting or listening on my consumer headphones, then check later on my monitors or whatnot and been like 'shit, those beats i thought were dope, are trash. Really poor' or like, just really lack whatever I liked about them. So yeah, depending on who's listening and what they're listening on, you never know.

So you wanna try make sure two main things:
- your song (beat/music/whatever) is really good, it would sound dope farted down fade's phone.
- your mix translates, so whatever it is played back on it still carries the key vibe*.

*even if played back rattling out of Fade's ass.

I understand it's convenient to listen on a cellphone but that sucks. I think if someone is going to vote from listening on their phone then they should at least really pay attention to the beat. Not just that, they're missing out on some really dope beats and all the highs and lows and mixing.

Maybe we should make the battles live and in person. The person with the loudest speaker blowing kicks and biggest crowd response (because they invited 100 friends) should win.

Honestly, R1 results look pretty justified to me.

I think 1 beat I voted for didn't progress, but when I listened back I think that was probably the right decision.

There was also one bracket where I thought neither beat deserved to go through  but the one that did go thru has a much better quality R2 beat even if it seems to just be one loop on repeat.

I always listen for the whole production of a beat, especially for the Battle That. There's plenty of times I'll vote for a beat that loops a lot because it's so dope, but I just find for a end-of-the-year battle it should be much more than that. In other words....
