    Yeah, you'll have to go with a usb midi interface. Most new pc's no longer have the older joystick port (at least not built into the motherboard). The Dimension 3000 definitely won't have one if you didn't request a soundcard (vs onboard sound). You can also try shopping for a cheap pci card...

    hardware advice. m-audio triggerfinger and midi keyboard

    The trigger finger has a nice feel for drums. I'd recomend that, and a keystation 88es (by Maudio as well). Its a nice cheap 88-key keyboard with semiweighted keys. Should only set you back $500 incl tax for both.

    Go for the 8400. By the time you configure one of the lower models with everything you need, you'll end up at the same price anyway.
