Your musical outlets

Im taking bout a month off from beatmaking.to really focus on piano and guitar. Making hip hop beats is cool but for me its only one aspect of many musical outlets.. After awhile creating loops etc.. gets boring as fuck.....

How many of yall have differnt musical outlets?? if so what are they???

I feel ya class.....I usually do the same thing. I just go about 4-6 weeks away from my mpc to do other stuff.

Scratchin..... on the Turntables

Drums

Oh yeah and complaining about how much garbage I hear on the radio and tv.....lol

I play the drums in a jam/funk/rock[?] sort of band as well as beat making. I know what you mean, it's cool to take a break sometimes - because of my steup I use when beatmaking, it's basically just refreshing to be making music without a computer.

yeah, its absolutely vital to take time off of MAKING music. my other things are:

singing
mc:ing
steeldrums
piano
drums

and i try to see as many gigs i can, cos its somewhat rare down here.. yesterday i saw j.dilla and ive been really depressed ever since.. hes not in good condition. hope he gets better.

Bass and piano.....I pull out sum of my old james jamerson tapes and parctice my bass with thoughs...........I also will stop listening to mainstream rap......a start out with old motown stuff, sum reggae, and what ever jazz Sirus radio is playin. Then i start listenin to sum early 90's hip hop..Usuallly after that i get a rejuvanation of sum sort for makin beats

I completely stop making music aswell, for weeks to months and then get back to it. But this isn't a choice asmuch as the fact that I don't have any creativity left and I have no passion for it.
But it always comes back.

What I do though, is that I almost listen to no other hip hop exept for the one I make myself. If I listen to hip hop i don't feel like making it and if I make it I don't feel like listening to it.

I listen to Pop and Cimenatic Scores instead.
That's how I do it.

Kinda strange perhaps and it makes me clueless about what "real" hip hop should sound like and thus I can concentrate on music I like, wheter it's hip hop or whatever people would like to call it.

I play bass as another musical outlet, but the beatmaking never stops at least not more than a couple days

I always feel like if I'm taking a break my competition is not, so I make it a point to never stop grindin

plus I'm always listening to records non stop so I get inspired in a moments notice

guess its just my competitive spirit and wanting to be the best

I know I know music is about creativity and self expression, but everything is a competition to me

To each his own i know alot of people like that but personally i couldent give a damn what other people are doing, music is very personal to me. Plus this producing thing is just another of mini outlets... At times Beatmaking is realtivly boring music wise sense everything is looped based

I play a little bit of piano/keyboard sometimes. But when I sit down to play, I normally end up making up a melody or chord progression out of nowhere, then I want to start making a beat with that melody. So it kinda gives me a burst of creativity! Although I dont think I could stop making beats for a month or so.....unless I had like exams or something, which I do in a week lol.

I know how you feel on that...its like a person always has to be practicing to get better.....but for ME personally, If i didnt take that break I would never evolve into greater things. I would be stuck in a rut of the same type of beats that dont get any better or they get worse* as time goes on. So from time to time, if I am feeling that rut like right now, I will reset my Mpc and start over and thats when my dopest shit comes to me. Thats just me

* when I say "worse" I mean that my beats in my opinion will start losing unique-ness and start sounding like everything else I have heard before


Thats Me personally, I know we all are doing the same thing in a general sense but we each have our own styles of doing what we are doing. Fist and Class, keep doing what yall are doin. You both have dope abilities......But Mine are better..hahahaha....lol, Im just playing around.


The type of music I am playing right now:

I put a pause on the piano for the moment, cuz I dont have access to an actual piano. Plus I hate the feel of keyboards.

The last song I f'ed with on the piano is probably
Beethoven's Op.13: Pathetique Sonata, 1st and 2nd movements

But on guitar I am using a nylon string so I am combining Jazz, classical and Latin styles and writing my own music.

sometimes, I need a break too. I get back into drawing and such. With the constant "writing" of music and rhymes,,,it gets tideous(spelling). But soon I will cop some turntables and get back into spinnin, heavily too. I'm even thinkin of doin parties again after the dust is off,,,1

I'm about to get hooked up with some piano lessons. I used to play the trumpet and sax couple years ago when I was in middle school. No real musical outlets at the moment but I got sports for that and I emcee a little bit.

I take breaks but it's not for renewed inspiration of none of that stuff, it's because another project is taking the majority of my time.

I practice the guitar/ a lil' piano, and I'm looking to get into the bass.
Guitar wise I'm really trying to strengthen my ear training and get better overall.

I'm influenced by producers that add "music" to their productions like a Jazze Pha, Wyclef and Jerry Wonder, and Pimp C.

I really aspire to be a great guitarist one day and I'm demanding a lot from my lessons and my teachers.
