..but then, an R&B singer wants the same beat to sing over.

Do you sell it?

Just curious to see where some heads are on this one. This subeject tends to cause small arguments in my squad.

I am so annoyed by hearing phat Hip Hop cuts jacked for platinum R&B songs. Like, Biggie's ten crack commandments transformed to a SWV song. Or a Mobb Deep cut looped up for Mariah. We all gotta eat, so are you gonna sell it for chips or say no

Man get your paper. A beat is a beat. Some of the hip hop r&b joints be hot. Plus R&B producers make more money.

I'm always going to have my standard, so I'd want to hear the singers final result, okaying it before it hit the street...but otherwise I wouldn't say no at all...

yo if someone wants to buy my beat they wanna buy my beat, hell,i'd even retweek a beat to make it more techno if someone wants a techno song i figure $$$ is $$$ and any exposure is good exposure besides no matter how you get in the industy you can always integrate your true stlye into whatever music, why not aim for being the top in the industry instead of just bein the top in the hiphop industry,i wanna try and be the best hiphop,r&b,drum n bass, house ,techno, pop, rock, metal, trance, jungle, and any other kind of music there is producer,so yeah id sell a hip hop beat for rnb,and if i had a rapper i was trin to put on i'd try to incorparate small voice snippetts in there too

There's nothing wrong gettin paid doing what U luv to do. We gotta survive. But yeah I'd have to hear the finished track... unless it was paid for up front. Even if the singer isnt very good people would be like 'the beat is ill but I don't like the vocals...' plus people would want to know who made the beat. More exposure = more cash flow.

sell it -- regardless if isn't up to your standard -- it's still more promotion and publicity for you -- plus you'll eat off of it too??? -- oh hell yeah!!! -- lol

Exactly get your paper is right......are you a member of ascap or bmi or sesac??????? because lemme put it to you like that.....you could be getting paid double if the track is a platinum track......you get paid 50% royalties for each song unless you spit or sing on it too....then youd get 100% of the quarterly check....man the thing I like to stress to up and coming producers is yes making beats it part of it......but know all of your biz aspects and handle ya biz accordingly....use paper and contracts...etc........

....as much as i want to say no.... go for it. the biggest thing is to remain true to yourself, and whatever value system you live by. forget what we all have to say- what do you think? i know you asked for advice, but we all do things and make choices based on various things. when i am a sought after producer who doesnt need the money, then i would probably have a resounding "no" awaiting the one who asked me....and then that would depend on who asked me, do i need the business tie there, do i owe this person a favor, how good was the original,... the list goes on.
but right now my goal is to get known, get exposure, and get my music in the right hands..... so yeah, i would sell it again, if i were ghoing by my current situation. plus, how much $$$ we talkin about here?

plus, if its being sought after that bad, you hold the cards here so get everything you can! creative input, etc... you want your work to reflect your vision as well as the artist.....plus, you know, you are hitting to different markets with the same beat, so the exposure level goes up a few notches.

If one beat is hot today and fades out, it's gone forever. but if someone wants to keep reviving it and its going to make you money, I say go for it. Why do you even have to think about it? If your sh!t is hot enough for more than one person, make copies! :D
