Alright fellas. Enough is enough.

I personally think that the time has comefor usto start doing more for ourselves. I have only heard a few full songs from this site, and i think that we all need to step it up and start putting our money where our mouths are. We all had fun with that thread by the soundclick guys, but at least their site has full songs on them.

Were they wack? Um..... yeah, pretty much, if you ask me.

HOWEVER... they have full songs up and i dont. A lot of us dont. Those who are, keep it up..... and those who are not, STEP IT UP. Myself included. hook up with an mc or two, or learn to spit yourself. If rhyming aint your gift, if your delivery sucks, thats fine- but get that experience recording and effecting vocal. Get that feel for the full song.
Even if cats are spittin off your tracks for free- you keep the recording. YOU pimp THEM for their vocals, not the other way around. YOU put together YOUR album with cats on YOUR beats, ala Hi Tek and Premier and Dr Dre.

So thats my challenge to you guys.... step this thing up. Lets start adding legitimacy to that claim of "Taking hip hop production to the next level", because until we do, guys like the elmnts will wind up blowing (literally and figuratively, both ways) and gettin the play and paper, while we sit here typing away endlessly.

The truth is that guys like them make guys like us look bad- because we have superior talent, skills, and vision, but they are doing more then posting tracks for feedback.

TRUTH I agree with you 100%, we do need to step it up and make forward progress. I'm with it all the way. The Ultimate decision on having a spot here to post beats lies on ILLMUZIKS owner but I'm all for it. Even if I have to come out of my pocket. Alot of cats will scream "I'm in!" but when the time comes "they're ghost!". Anyway, I'm focusing on positivity right about now and I like the idea of posting our beats at home.

forward march!--dac

i do to- i think we should continue to post beats here at Illmuzik. but for us that have been here a while, we should be posting songs by now, along with the beats. the feedback is a great thing- but the song is the thing, not the beat. i'm not talking about paying money, unless you have to get studio time, but just posting full songs as well as beats in the showcase. we just need to step our game up and start making more progress.

yeah that bothered a little too. alot of cats here just post beats for feedback and then pull'em down. on my page i have over 100 beats for sale. i post stuff for feedback for fun basically. i like to hear everyone's opinions. i've recorded four full length albums and counting. i'm promoting(poorly) one album now and sitting on two quality albums due to a lack of funds. being here is a chance to reach out on the production end to other artists.

if you want to be a producer only, thats great, but truth has a point. i want to hear some songs.

Truth Told, you have a point there (but you also don't :p).
i agree that those who don't finish tracks - SHOULD finish them.
but, you must remember, that some people prefer instrumentals\short beats (i am one of them). i LOVE skits\instrumentals, and since i CANNOT rap, i prefer not having vocals on my instrumentals (until i find a suitable mc i like). i agree that people MUST acquire mixing\mastering techniques by layering vocals on top of their beats, but you gotta remember that there are other ways of doing so (id est: using an acapella, like i do for instance). in general, i support what you say. people who haven't done much work, shall PUT THEORY INTO PRACTICE.

if you are an instrumental artist mainly, then by all means, wings, that should be your focus.

most of us here tend to have dreams of prodcuing actual mc's or producing ourselves; these are the people that this applies to. so let me ammend my statement: Those of you who fit the shoe on this one, WEAR IT.

i dont want anyone to think i am being a dick here- i just want to see us start making some moves and moving forward. i want to hear that wings is shopping around the concept of an instrumental album, that deuce sent some tracks to a movie studio (im telling you deuce- your styleis MADE for the big screen!) or that holmzini is doing work on the local mc's ep....... i just want to see SOMETHING. even if its tentative, or "in the works" so we can at least say we aredoing something more than just posting beats for feedback.

if that is what you arecontent to do, thats ok- but most of you arent.

Truth Told, my dear friend, WORD. now, i fully understand your point, as in the beginning i thought that you were kinda FORCING  people to use MCs. "if you are an instrumental artist mainly, then by all means, wings, that should be your focus" - this statment cleared things out for me. by the way, "wings is shopping around the concept of an instrumental album", is not too far from the truth ;)... i do not plan a cd yet, but i do have ready tracks, waiting to be released (hopefully, more info coming soon).

Good Night,
Wings

one thing that could be really cool as an addition to the Lab is putting up a "Projects" forum. maybe this could be a place for people to update each other about their current albums, singles, collabos, whatever. that way, everyone could tune into the progress of whatever anyone is doing, along with feedback and/or suggestions.

just a thought

Ive been shootin for that level for quite some time now, but for me and alot of other people on here that may be harder than it sounds...
Not tha linking up aspect and finding an emcee and such...but more so having tha funds to even step it in that direction.
I personally have had aspirations to cut an album for mad long...and im always scheming on how i can get that nex buck cuz if i dont then i aint gonna get what i m reaching for. For me this is tha hardest part...
I got my skills, my pc, my small time networking, etc...but i dont have a soundcard or a real mic, and list full of other things that would make my life easier.
For me thats hard to come by...cuz i literally live check to check - im sure alot of yall know how that iz. I dont think that its not doable but its also metaphorically like snowboarding to me.....You see if your a blue collar like i am and you like to go hit tha snow when tha shit starts dumping then you know how long it literally takes you to actually accumilate all yer gear...thats why i always considered boarding a rich mans sport.
To me music production is tha same in a lot of respects...It takes mad long to gather all tha proper gear to get tha job done.
So as for me - im still waitin for my check so i can take it there.

yo truth i accept the challenege dun!! that was a well said statement fam!!! im also feelin dueces statment too!!! evry time i make a piece, i gotta pay 25 -30 hour for studio time because my soundcard isnt all that, my room has to muuch air, etc.. if i had a proper mic setup trust i wouldn't even post instrumentals... in sayin that i have to basically sell the beat before i lay anyhting on it and usually make the artist pay the studio fee.... but my local crew albums IS comin pretty soon... and im gonna be on complilation album coming out (similar to the one at illmuzik) I got my resevoir built up i just want to finalize my track selection and get evrything cordianted before i go and spend hundreds on studio time to do this damn album.. but i do agree wit you and ill take that as a challenge to me to put out some o dat realness i been talkin about..I will not dissapoint!!

lets all band together and form an online beat shop. that'd be sick! we all put in our beats and contribute to the adverstising..then we break off a piece of whatever we sell to maintain the sites, bandwidth, etc.

THAT...is takin it to the next level. we got so much technology, but we're still emailing A&Rs and shippin off CDs. fuk that!

phat topic

truth i understand you want everyone to pull their act together (inckuding yourself) because obviosuly you want cats here to succeed. i would hope thats the same for everyone here....cos if its not u in the wrong place. there would be nothing doper than to have cats from this fam succeed and be able to rep for illmuzik.

i concuder myself to be working reasonably hard on my music and learn as much as i can. when i have a nice selection of finished beats, i plan to go to the "calling all MCs" thread and hook the fuck up......im assuming the MCs here will lend some spitfire to other producers who want some rhymes on their beats. ive listened to some of the Mcing from cats who posted up in that thread and i can dig alot of it. i plan to have half of my beats with Mcing and half as instrumental and vocal samples/cuts. cos i want to work on my intricate production and an MC would just ruin it and the listener couldnt appreciate it as much.

thats all i can think of to say at the moment

we ought not to forget the ILLMUZIK COMPILATION CD.
this cd will give some of us a chance to showcase our tracks.
it's nearly ready, and i believe it'll complete after fade gets back (within a few weeks...). this cd is exactly our chance to step up and prove this forum's MOTTO: "Taking hip hop production to the next level"!
i'm really counting on it, and so should you!
it will be ahead of its time, as progressive and wonderful as a cd can get.

I'm feeling everything everyone is saying and I must say thank you to Truth for bringing this subject up......I haven't been posting here like I used to because I've been trying to make moves and the more I try the easier things seem to get Now I have over 24 songs complete with two different artist and now I turned into to their manager as well as my own I've talked on the phone with a few Indie A&Rs and as I got into this next level of trying to get things heard by people that matter
(other then the people of the Illmuzik community because all of you matter to me no matter what beef's we get into with each other) It's hard work all across the board and not one of us will go from nothing to big time producer overnight none of us will get a production deal from a big lable just like that it starts at the bottom and you build from there...I haven't made it yet but I'm feeling real good about my situation..I'm not the best producer and my artist aren't the greats mc's but we are far from the worst and with the amount of people getting money in the industry I feel like we all can eat.....It is very important for all of you producers here who has not record any songs to get started because it is one of the best ways to get your foot in the door...Find somone that raps that is just as serious as you are about your beats and record as many songs as you can even if you have to go to a studio to record you and your artist split the cost...out of the almost 4 years I've been making beats I didn't record my first song with an artist until march of this year and I'm mad that it took that long for me to do a song.....But here it is now I'm getting ready to have it heard by real A&Rs even if I don't get either one of my artist or myself a deal it shows that it can be done , so please everyone get this shit crackin......even if you don't live in new york it's very possible for you to make moves like Guevera said in one post "you'll be suprised what you can get out of diall 411".....All these big and indie record companies are public listed go to www.infospace.com and search a bussiness by type and just type in record companies for whatever state you live in and a list will come and try to shop your music to them if you have no manager be your own and if you feel your stuff is that good contact managment companies like violator managment and send them a package....It can be done it will be a long hard road but it can be done you,WE have to stick with it!!!!
