i have an mpc 1000 and id definately go with the motif ES rack, basically coz iv heard that the sounds in that shit are so authentic.main advantage of a 1000 is the USB connectivity for wav. transfers between the mp and a pc.(great if u have software like sonar for chopping up samples- then jst drag and drop them into the mp disk).

sorry i cant give you much helpful info coz i dont have the setup you're on about.

p.s. research well between the xr and the es and decide what you want, although i think it will be a tough decision.

one.

hmmmmmmmm honestly the fantom xr covers more bases overall soundwise right out of the box, plus the expansion cards make for a huge sound source.

secondly, the motif does acoustic/organic sounds better then anything out there- rhodes, guitars, flutes, solo strings, solo horns, etc and has strong synths.

the roland does those things good-not great- and they get better with the cards. plus the sampler adn its resampling features. the motif es has more in the way of effects- literally 5 times more effects inserts then the fxr, but the fantom fx are arguable better and the resampling takes care of that issue in terms of patch creation. its synths/world/string/orchestral are far better imo...

all in all, the overall "better" choice is the fxr but the motif es is a VERY CLOSE second. ideally having both covers everything great imagineable IF you know what you are doing.

bear in mind that the motif es is $300 less.

If you get the fantomXR with expansion cards there would be no point in getting the motif es rack. The so-called great acoustics in the motif es rack can be found on the roland expansion cards. Just check em out on the roland website.

^^^^^^^ i disagree

while the "quality" may even out with the srx cards, the simple fact remains that they offer DIFFERENT sounds and expansion options- so while it may not be "necessary" to have both, it is/can be certainly benificial.

i say buying one and then adding another later is a good idea- they are very complimentary pieces with different strengths and weaknesses.

I have the mpc2000xl but i am planning to get the 1000 for traveling reasons. I would definatley go woth the motif es rack because it definatley has better sounds than the phantom, plus i like the all around use.

SOrry man your totally wrong on this one, 2 totally differnt sound engines. Its like comparing a Mustang to a ferri, each do there own thing well.
