WTF is up with SoundCloud?

I was checking some beats and a popup showed up saying that if I liked the music and wanted to keep listening I'd have to sign up (I was logged out). I heard about them with their label legal issue stuff, but now what's this? Are they trying to save on bandwidth or hoping people will sign up to the pro account?

Anyone else get this?

I figured that's what it was, but that plus the legal thing, I can't see them keeping all their users. Actually, I just found out about https://www.orfium.com which I guess is supposed to be a soundcloud rival of sorts.
