Written Drums

I need help with drums. I have no problems rocking keyboards, etc.(seeing that I have Guitar background/trumpet.) But I CAN'T do Drums. Could somebody write out some songs for me as in..

H: Hi-Hat
K:Kick
S:Snare
C:Clap
etc

if you really want that information about songs, just listen to the song and write it out yourself. if you cant do that, (identify the different drum sounds and the rythm they hit in a song) then you should sell all your equipment tomorrow and quit.

Im sure you can manage that though. kick...snare...kick kick snare... right?

Nah not dumb man. It's a relevant question and I was in the same position as you before. I got into this with barely any knowledge of drums.

You could chop at the drum hits and export a midi file then open it in your sequencer to add your own drums. Now you can see how they're sequenced. This is easily done in recycle btw. Don't know what you're using. With this method you can check out any song you want.

It may be a relevant question to wonder how drum rhythems are created but i think your going about finding out in the wrong way. The best way to do it is to imitate the things you listen to. Take like 10 songs and go one by one using the same drum kit even. start with the hihats first that'll be easiest. Then do the snares on the 2count and 4 count (4/4time signature). Now you can put the kicks in however they are. This is a very basic starting point but everyone that has ever made a beat in the history of making beats has started at this point. Just imitate what you hear and you'll get familiar with what sounds good.

Your drums should be created off of the melody so that it flows with it. You can't just write drums and try to force it to fit with a melody. It doesn't work that way.

yea i been doing that and im slowly progressing sometimes its just hard to pick out drums.. know what i mean.
