Will the Neptunes' new CD be the dawn of producer oriented records?

Yeah, I know that there have been "producer oriented" type records out there, like Dr. Dre The Chronic, and some others. It seems to me that this will be a "producer compilation," album.

When I saw the cover of the new Neptunes CD, it made sure to show the Neptunes as the "artist" with Jay-Z and other superstars "guest artists" on this new sort of "producer compiled" record. It's all new songs, with track made by the Neptunes, but most of the rap work will be done by guests.

So, a lot of these songs, especially if Jay-Z holds down a spot for an entire song, even with Pharrell singing, could be on Jay-Z's album. But now that producers are so powerful, their "style" could in fact make a record company want to release their album. Keep that in mind.

-Sincerely,
God

Hey,

I would love to see an album made by producers which DON'T have people rapping on it. This would hopefully encourage producers to step up a little bit and make better music which is good to listen to without relying on vocals to carry tracks.

pete rock did that on petestrumentals....the origional version only had 2 emcee tracks and they were a lesser known NY crew (the UN) that he was helping out. in my eyes this album is one of the better cds i've ever heard, u should check it out. supposedly this dude can do shit on the mpc/sp-1200 that the manufacturers didn't know was possible....

Yeah, I agree...there are some hot producers out there and I think this could open the flood gates now for some more producers to come high in demand (eg. Just Blaze) with a producer orientated album.

There are already however some good albums out from producers without rappers (like Vitaminman wanted to hear). You prolly are aware of producers like DJ Shadow, RJD2, Madlib, etc with instrumental albums showing raw production skills. Although, I'm not completely sure that theres a large enough market for production only albums for that idea to ever completely take off.

well, hi tek released an album a couple of years ago that took the exact same approach as the new neptunes album, and it was a very good album start to finish, as did the creators.. those of you from europe may be a bit more familiar with them than the guys here in the us. the neptunes arent doing anything groundbreaking here.... but they are making a much larger splash in the overall scheme of things. i dont really care for them that much as producers for hire, but the nerd album was really good... (what was that song..... bobby...bobby what? its like track three or something but the beat is one of the illest i have heard in a while from anyone...)

rjd2 has actually released two, in the last year, with the second one including instrumental versions of the ones that were rapped over on the last one. this album, i believe, is a blueprint for future artists to use as a template.....

i personally want my albums to reflectmy various tastes while maintaining continuity soundwise. i want maybe a third of it to be rapped on, a singing track or two with artists of different styles, plus i put my pastors sermons to my beats... that is getting a lot bigger then i thought it would! actually i am going to at some point put out a 'remix" album of various sermons and speeches with my beats....

so anyhow, yes, i believe that this will be the dawning of a new medium of hip hop, both saleswise and creatively..... some of thses walls are being broken down.

I hear wut you sayin but to me it seems like now a days the beat carries tracks more than the lyrics in alot of cases...maybe not all the songs but ALOT more than b4...for instance think of the numbrone song in your area. i bet you that you dont know the lyrics thru the verses you could probably adlib it if you had to but you almost for sure would know the entire chorus and beat. but back in the day you knew the lyrics for songs now im thinkin as producers get better the focus is bein put more on the beats.

It could be, everyone knows whos the big producers today. Half of them are getting paid off a name, so it sounds like it would fly.
