Why is it?

Every once in a while I come across other sites that mention IllMuzik in one form or another. What's funny is that nobody really disses us, yet they don't give us props either. Everyone mentions that UGHH or Rapmusic.com are the best, for example. Then someone will pop in and mention Ill, and no one comments LOL.

So my question to everyone is - why is that? What do you think makes people not mention us? Do you think it's because we're not popular enough? Is it because no one really knows about us? Or maybe it's because we're more community oriented than any other site?

I think it's because of the community thing. Maybe the troublemakers stay away from here because they know they'll get straightened out real quick. But that still doesn't explain why no one really mentions us when they first think of a Hip Hop production site, or a Hip Hop site in general.

What do you think?

i think its good as is, as soon as you start getting to popular and getting your props in public people troublemakers will come along and try and knock the site down, keep the quality of the site good keep the close community if people give props so be it but if not it doesn't really matter everyone whos part of the site appreciates what we have here !

I believe it's a community aspect of it Fade. Here, you have to participate to be a part of this. I think we are so tightly fitted together here that we just rep this site and don't venture out to other sites. I could be WAY OFF base on that though.

nah,, but on the real like you said all ready the community aspect is probally why. i havn't really gone to alot of forums but this is the only one i've seen where it's really like a community.

See man let me put a bug in ya ear......no one really thinks that anyone hear is serious, I wont even go as far to tell more but Fade you would be surprised at the people right under your nose that underestimates 1. the producers on the site....2. never really took anyone here seriously but I told them a looooooooong time ago iLL was ill way b4 I joined their org....but they want you to promote them.....OH Well I shake my head because they want ill now and their members LOL....that cool I will have the rest in my real tell all book I am in the middle of writing.....

Theres nothing to argue about this site, no beefs, no bs topics just beats n rhymes. There arent any forums about movies, games etc just beats and the people, the forums dont die but remain pretty constant.

I wouldn't say it's because the post turnaround is slow, I find it's quite good. I remember when there was 1 post a week! Now there's hundreds a day.

BigD, I forgot to mention that one too - people not taking us seriously. That's another reason why I think they don't mention us. I don't know why anyone would think that, just looking at other sites - sure they have big forums, but they're not close-knit like us. That's what separates us right away.

If you look at all these other sites, they're all pretty much the same (dissing, fights, acting childish), just different members.

I don't care really that we don't get our props, because I'm just going to continue doing what I'm doing. I won't change things to please anyone. Remember when I tried to get Google Ads on here? They turned me down because of profanity. What muthafuckin profanity? Fuck 'em.

Anyway, keep the comments coming, I want to see what the rest of you think!

i think the community thing is the main reason. like over at Futureproducers.com, its basically a free for all.

i think it could also be the way the forum is structured, ya know with the Showcase section instead of just posting audio everywhere. i think the Ill way is better, but alot of people probably dont have the patience to wait 3 days before postin their beats again.

the only other possible reason i can think of is the more 'conservative' rules of the forum. i.e. you dont allow them massive images in signatures or links to downloads, ish like that. but again, the Ill way is better.

I think you're on to something there. The vibe of these board are different from others. Not in a bad way or anything.

Well, I'm not talking about just the forums, I mean the whole site.

I still don't REALLY understand why it's not mentioned more. From these forums, to the articles, artist pages, radio, downloads and all the competitions, you'd figure it would be more well known....

I think it might have to do with the fact that once someone stumbles on this site, they rarely go back to the other sites.

This site is a true gem. There are some other production sites I frequent, but its more out of boredom than anything else.

Once I found this site I didn't feel a need to frequent the other sites. This has everything I need.

Hey...I'm prolly the biggest lurker on this site. I rarely post...but check the site multiple times per day. But to answer FADE's question about why this site doesn't get lots of props, I think I have an answer. There really isn't much interesting/attention grabbing content on the site. Although we're all about improving ourselves as artists on the come up, if you want to improve the perception of your site you need to get interviews/special features with some better known producers. People are first going to visit the site to see what madlib has to say...not Afrique (at least yet). This site is a great resource and i really like reading what people have to say on this board...people are genuine here. Once you blow up the site though, you put it at the risk of all the people who are going to put meaningless shit all over the place.

There IS lots of interesting stuff on here, those that don't think so are looking in the wrong places. What people tend to look for is what every other site has - the latest info about Em, 50, or Kanye's tricks, etc. That's not what IllMuzik is about at all. I'd rather spend my time focusing on the members here rather than big name producers like Kanye. I'll leave that to the other sites.

i wouldnt worry bout it Fade. if my calculations are right, this site has 1380 members. Futureproducers has 51,297.... so theres no wonder why it aint covered as much.

as far as the rest of the site, i cant see why people dont take to it, it seems like you have everythin a producer could want there.

sadamz85, I'm a lurker too. lol. I'm not on here as much as I used to be, but every now and then a good topic catches my eye.

Fade, I think in a way you just answered your own question. Since you don't stand for the nonsense, the recognition will take longer to get there. People will gossip about something negative that happened more than they will about something positive. Most of the poeple on the other sites go there to found out the scoop on latest beefs. Also the people on the other sites are about freestyling as self-promoting and spamming message boards. Well at least they think they are about self-promoting until they find out how much work you have to put into your music outside of the internet world to actually get somewhere. On Illmuzik, it is composed of musicians/artists that see that it is going to take time and effort to make it. It is composed of Doers not Talkers. You can see it by the different types of questions that are asked in the forum.

So when people mention the other sites, they are the ones who may drop a freestyle in a forum, think they are the best, and think that just because they can freestyle good, someone is going to automatically give them a deal. They see that this will not fly on this board. You can't just spam this forum and leave.

So with the forum staying how it is, it will take a little longer to get the recognition it deserves. But just give it time, it will. Whether you want "big time" producers on here or not, you will get them in time because it some people on here makin some real moves.
