why is it so hard to make it in the music industry?

is it really as hard as everyone says it is. or is it just the big ppl tryin to control the market by makin it seem harder than it really is. im really startin to think that the big labels and exec's just try to make it aloot harder then it really is. cuz if you think about it...is it more a matter or havin good music or havin good money? to me its more of havin good money (and of course you have to balance it out with something that will sell) but record sales isnt up to artist really besides comin up with a good product/song (which the producers really do if u think about it).

any major label can bring in any bum off the street give him some lyrics and a shave and market him to us (if they wanted to) but the thing is that its up to them. and like i said b4 they most likely dont want a whole bunch of ppl comin in the game fuckin with their market share like that.

so my guess is as long as your money is rite then you can atleast guarantee yourself 15 seconds of fame, and if you are good you can stay for 30 secs, and if you are good and ppl like you and support you then you'll be in the game for a good minute.

i find it very hard to disagree with you J. I dont know where they get some of these guys to be honest. I mean its seems like anyone can sell some albums no matter how wack they are with proper push and marketing..(young gunz ..cant stop in my opionion was the worst song ive heard in a long long time...) so im wondering...what makes record companies choose a certain individual over another and why? it seems like they can turn anyone (lil zane....please) into a star for at least awhile so why these certain individuals that happen to be wack as fuck with obviously no room for longevity? Many of these new rappers getting signed will not be around for the next year while talented individuals with potential are overlooked. God enlighten us please!!!

Exactly, it's all politics now, it's all about the look, you don't have to be the best rapper, the best producer.....it's gotten like corporate America, and it's been like that for a long time....it's not what you know or the talent you have but.....it's who you know and sometimes the ones with the real talent get left out that's just the hard truth about the game.

The fact is that it is a business, you deal with a corporation, and that's what I'm trying to tell people, that you have to deal with that aspect for success with a major. For an indie, it depends on the situation.

That's a damn shame. Money is a huge issue, so the labels ( the ones with money) are the people that get to choose how the industry is.

You see how vulnerable the industry is with the economy slump and (supposedly) internet downloads...If kats would put their dollars together and start their own shit, with a focus on the music (as well as a respectable profit)...that's all there is to it...
