Why do you produce?

Have you ever asked yourself honestly WHY you produce? Obviously we all love the music/hip hop culture thats why we want to be part of it. But do some of you use it as an escape? Do you produce tracks so you can rap over them? Do you do it cuz you really think your gonna blow up someday?

Personally I think something will come of my music, for the sheer fact that all I day everyday of the week (Apart from the times I'm at work, shittin or fuckin haha) all I day is listen to music or produce music. I never watch Television/Cable... I perhaps watch the odd movie... but thats about it. Music Music Music... Thats all I think about when I'm not listening to it...

But yea, I'm just wondering everyone elses thoughts on this... please no bullshit, this is a serious thread.

I produce because it is an aou let for my writing, plus I want the freedom of working when I want to. I love sending time with my kids and working 12hr days doesn't help. Lastly I want to create

One thing that i can say, when i started producing, It never came in my mind that i could make money with my stuff. Even today, the thought of selling my music is not something that makes me happy... When i started producing i wanted to create carribean music and R&b. People conviced me to make Rap music. When i produce tracks, it has a lot of emotions. When im sad, mad or when i have some challenge, im hungry to produce. I produce because i love it. It is my passion. I love to create arrangement in my beats. Nope i dont sing or rap (thank God LOL) and someday in the futur, i just know that i will be blessed to hear platinum artists singing or rap over my stuff. It is just a matter of time now ;)

Well not too long ago i finally learned that "producing" is far from what most of us do which is "beatmaking".....Cuz to my knowledge until then i was a producer. I would answer people and explain that i produce hiphop beats....Now i jus say i make beats due to the many oher factors actually involvedin being a real producer...........................So anyways, i make beats because of several reasons....Most of them revolving around creating art for arts sake.

1. Intially, i started because it was fun and ive always been musically inclined.
2. Then, things began to get more serious and people were digging my tunes locally as well as asking me if i would make beats for them.
3. So later on it started to become kind of a new venture for me - both artistically, and now as a business plan.
4. Besides all that.....I just cant stop making beats....Its sooooo much fun for me still and its like a drug for me. - Making beats is the first and foremost thing i do every minute i have available, either as soon as get back from school, or right after i get home from work....It only feels right.:)

I started because I was heavily into DJ'ing at the time and I wanted to take it further by actually making music. Now I just do it strictly for fun, because I love it so much.

Music does seem to pull the ladies....what really works is playing the guitar while singin to them...they become puddy in ur hands.....Oh and i make beats mostly for personal satisfaction....If i can make it my sole source of income then great, but if not oh well....

Duece, your story sound so interresting! You have some good reasons to produce!!! I agree and share your reasons. I love to see a passionnate beatmaker. I hate to see people who happend to do that FOR the money in the first place. Making beats is an easy thing to do, so i guess easy money to get.

haha...that shit does work sometimes tho. If it came up that I make beats when talkin to some chick I'd ask em if they want to come back and check em out. Offer em a beer/hit...Panties droppin all over the place. It's pretty funny.

But seriously, I started makin music cause I was always interested in it and it got me out of depression if I was real upset over some shit or goin thru some hard times. It still is a safehaven of some sort, but I just love doin it now all the time. I love hearin some sample and sayin "man I gotta go make that into a beat right now". I can't even blaze and listen to certain music without droppin whatever I'm doin and runnin to the mpc. I also just love the process of creativity...I think any kind of art or self-expression says a lot about a person. Not to say that if you don't create things I can't talk to you, but if somebody's creative like that it I just think they're a more intersting person. I like makin all sorts of shit too -- video, drawing, especially photo. I think takin a beautiful photograph is just as rewarding as making a dope beat. So I guess it's about the personal reward you get by having created something and knowing that you're leaving an impression in the world, regardless of how big you get (or not).

Well ive always been an artist first, and then aside from that - Music has had such a huge impact on me throughout my life that ive always wanted to be the one creating it too. That can be largely contributed by my Dad. My dad's been kind of my artistic model of creating ever since i was a kid. Matter a fact, hes still in a band. That same band is going to be playing at my wedding this July.:)............So to make a long story longer - Im just too passionate about music not to have a great respect for it and make it as well. hehe.

I produce for the love. To see people rushed to the dance floor when the beat first drop. To ride down the street pass by the carwash and they playing your shit loud and proud. Or to have a lil nigga under 15, asking you to make a beat for him. The GENIOUS in me will not allow me to stop. Producing is my pleasure that brings so much pain. :headbang2

Well, I started producing like how fade did... I used to D.J. and i always loved shit like what D.J. premier was doing... The cuts over a custoim beat was just RAW! So i started making beats to cut over and eventually I started producing artists... I produce because it's the one thing that I actually got really good at... Also, it's one of the only things I can concentrate on for a long period of time... Someone on this site said it the best though.. "There's nothing like putting a bunch of sounds together and calling it your own.." <---that's real!

But, since i started making beats and producing that made me want to get into alot more things musically... I want to use live musicians, maybe even learn an instrument and incorporate that into my beats... But the main thing I produce overall for is when Someone is playin my shit and don't know who made it and i go "yo, yeah i made that!.." That's the best to me... And of course inspiring people to make music too...
