we count as the popular vote, and yet the electoral colleg are the "real" votes. so there are two votes:

1-this is who the people want, candidate A. 2- this is who a select few who are in the pockets of the parties involved want, candidate B. in this case, candidate B wins, does it not?

basically its like pro wrestling: you often have a fan favorite recognized as "the peoples champion", the guy gets jobbed on a regular basis and isnt the recognized champ, and then you have the REAL champion, the guy Vince McMahon hand picks to be the face of the organization.

perhaps my understanding is skewed here, but to my understanding the electoral vote is the vote that determines the president. please correct me if i am wrong.

Shiit your vote counts turst me!! Im from florida and u know what happend there. In Palm beach county(which decided the state, which decided the entire election) there was a differnce of 1200 votes. Illmuzik has more registerd memebers than that.

Man i know it sounds cliche but But to many people have died in order for us to have the right to vote.

australia is the only western country in the world which has compulsory voting. how wack is that.

the only chance of getting out of it is if you claim to be a consciencious objector. small chance though.

i thought this was a free country.

but you HAVE to vote AND because of "preferences", if you vote for a small party and they dont get in, your vote automatically goes to one of the major parties.

i had to register to vote to go to college but i still dont vote, i was actually thinkin about this the other day and i relized no1 in my family votes,none of my uncles aunts cousins or anyone ,im not sure if they have a reason for not voting i know everyone cept me and my cousins were born in italia im not sure if they voted there . i never voted cuz personally i think all politicians are crooks and they lie cheat steal and only look out for number 1 but its true a lot of people did die so that i can vote, so maybe ill start votin this year ,if i do ill be voting for sum1 that has no chance in hell of winning or ill vote for myself as a write in

i think the popular votes in each state decides how the electoral college for that state will vote, most of the time the electoral college will vote with what the popular vote but they can change their vote if they want , thats what i remember from senior year in high school

TO add on to that ,
each state has a specific number of electorial votes depndeing on the population. The larger the population the more electorial votes it has(meaning more power). Thats why states like California(which has the most votes) ,FLorida etc are heavlity recurited by polotitions.

Here is where the conterversy comes in....
Since Im from FLorida my indivual vote holds more weight then someone from Rhoad Island. This is becasue my vote sways floridas 10 electoiral votes as opposed to Rhoad Islands 2 electorial votes. Basically my vote means more casue my state has more power.

but could you think of it as a vote/population ratio so your vote counts the same based on that
if rhode island had 10 electoral votes and florida did too then rhode island's vote would have more power
but in the end its the absolute number of electoral votes that wins so it is important to win california and florida

I've said it before and I will say it again...Do you really think the most powerful country in the world will let its people decide who runs it? Seriously. Look at the whole 2000 Election. Bush "magically" won in Fla. Okay, so lets say that was legite. An ex-Predient's offspring(I say offspring because he is no MAN!) wins an Election and yeah 9/11 happens. Okay, now he's fighting Terrorism, so why in the hell did he go directly after Sadaam? Sure he went and into Afgahnistan just to appease us, but the real agenda was to finish the job "Daddy" couldn't do. He even went against the U.N.???? How was that possible? BIGGER PICTURE people. Just forget that Americana crap they shovel down our throats through the media and press and look at things with an open mind yall. This Country was built on Murder and Taxes. Go back to your 5th grade History class,,,,,Pilgrims came here to start there own Government. Why pay taxes when you can collect them right.....and why share the land that was rightfully owned by the Indian Tribes? Just kill them all and take what ya like,,,and on top of all that,,,The "Great Founders' of this nation were slave owners. Nothing is what it seems and my opininion is Why vote when at this exact moment the President is already picked.
