Are these two drum machines your only preference? The cons seriously outweigh the pros, actually there are no pros for these two machines lol, only because they are very old and you'll be limited to what sounds are in the box. For a better investment I would save up for a MPC1000 and or battery or similar software application. Maybe there is something you like about these two machines if so then I couldn't really explain the benefits of them, I had a SR16 Drum machine a long long long time ago and it did the job when I had it.

I agree with Architect. The SR16 is like 10 years old and has never changed it's sound-set. You don't won't 10 year old drums. As for the boss machine, I'm sure it may have some good sounds, but once you've used all of them, you'll eventually want more. You want something that samples so you can always stay current on sounds. You can build a drum library for every. If you can hold out and put some more pennies aside, look into these:

Roland SP 505 about $450

MPC1000 About $900

Roland Sp606 about $700

These machine will serve you much better than the 2 that you're inquiring about.

What's you current set-up?

The Boss has nice sounds but the SR 16 is a better machine. Assigning and editing are easier. And the SR 16 has 4 possible outs. If you have to do midi sync passes, that's really helpful.
