i can get the SM7B cheap to, RODE K2 (USED) 400euro and SM7B (NEW) 375euro , so what do you think?
Most Rappers uses Condensor, and the SM7B is to dark.
That great river is to expensive 1290euro! another preamp ?

I found it depends on what your going for:

Do you want more "air" around the vocal and have a lot of clarity and up-front presence or do you want something that you really can get in there with if you need to (which i found most rappers do) that can take a high SPL?

Both kinds are valid, plus different people sound better on different mics.

For example, i usually track vocals through my GT MD1B FET because I really like the air you get around the vocal and the FET gives a nice warm tone that I prefer.

I also have a Sennheiser MD 421 which is dynamic in comparison the the GT which is a large diaphragm condensor. What I like about the 421 is that I can let an MC yell in that thing if he needs to and it still sounds ok 99% of the time. Plus theres not too much proximity effect.
Other artists Ive worked with sound like crap through it though so it really depends on the tambre of someones voice too.

u wont need more than one mic if ur only recording a few voices imo... maybe for other genres but not hip hop. if u run a studio obviously u need more choices but we recorded our whole album with an at4047 through a safesound p1... and it sounds great (at least to my ears.. u guys be the judge when it drops) btw the safesound is slept on ...its a preamp, compressor, limiter, and expander in one unit. it will give u a very clean sound and the compressor is virtually invisible... u know its working but u cant "hear" it squeezing like many others. Its not a vintage "character" piece by any means but it works well to get a quality controled signal into the box... and the compressor on it is sick on vocals cuz its so transparent .. even at high ratios.

How much of a difference is there between rapping on a KSM27 and Sm7?

Huge difference, they are totally different mics. The SM7 can handle higher SPL and it will give you proxy, so the rappers voice will get more bass the closer they get to the mic. Cool stuff.

the sm7 in my experience is a hit or miss mic .. its not something that i would get if i only had one mic... it can sound really boxy and dull... espcially when ur recording someone with a deep voice... it sounds great on some voices, crappy on others .. i think its a great mic, but a llittle overated imo... esp for hip hop... i think the guys that praise it so much are more into rock and other genres. it gives u that close, thick, and warm sound but it lacks any type of sheen or presence.. and its not the clearest mic in the world either. It works for that grimey style for sure but if u want those polished, modern sounding vocals imo u need to look elsewhere.

I kinda agree actually. I originally bought the SM7B for my first vocal mic and liked it but didnt appreciate the lack of air around the vocal that I was looking for so I sent it back and bought the GT mic instead.
Ironically, i did miss certain qualities about that mic though so I re-ordered it later when i had more dough.
I still think its a really useful mic, plus the rolloff is nice.

Another dynamic that i think is really great is the EV RE20. I have one of those too and actually prefer it a little more the SM7B, but theres a time and a place for both of em.
