I was curious if anybody thinks there's any point to music?... Do you think music evolves? Do you think music influences society? Or do you think Music is just about the individual? Do you make music just 4 yourself and your own expression? Do you think music is just about money? Do you think Music could be about anything the musician wants?Do you think music is abstract? just wondering if there are any common principles and themes going around as to why we make music..

I make music cause It's a form of self expression, but when writing I always try to take into account how I could make its a song that expresses feelings/logic that people in general may feel cause I think music should reflect society..I also think musicians have to be responsible and write songs that are real while reflecting life's situations, which provide listeners the opportunity for self reflection that brings a greater understanding of themselves and others around them.. I believe music should be as political as the former thinkers of classic times like Socrates, Gandhi, MLK..there should be definite ideas there..I hate abstract bullcrap that makes no logical sense..like listen to the radio and commercial crap and it's all about money, sex, looks..and I could get into why those things are illogical but won't right here..than you go to the underground and most just rhyme about the fakeness of the commercial but really don't explain why or how to change things..it's like those fake freaks you knew in high school who just wanted to be different cause they couldn't be the cheerleaders/jocks/ cool kids...but when I see them now they're normal because their freakdom had no REAL rebellious idea behind them to uphold their freak ways..but at the same time w/ music containing ideas I do music cause it helps put the abstract qualities of life out of my head, but again it helps me analyze myself and other people..I think making music is beautiful because it's a conglomerate of so many different cultures/people and I hope to show those different ideas in my music.

Music means too much for me to put a "point" behind it, I listen and make it because I love it, not really to express anything. Music can make me feel lots of thinks but most of all I love it just because it is music, it's got a really special quality which I don't think anything like literature or poetry can quite touch. It's hard to describe really, but yes, to me music is a very abstract thing which comes from somewhere different.

For me, its kind of a stress reliever, or a mood changer. Im pissed off most the time, so most the time im listenin to Mobb Deep. Feelin depressed or somethin, put in some of Ludacris underground shit too make me laugh. It can change your attitude a lot. And its hip-hop, so to me its also a culture too, its not just the files you got on floppy, and the casettes you got in that box, and it sure as hell aint those money-hungry punks on MTV that couldnt even tell you the 5 elements.

Makin beats is pretty much the same way for me. Im pissed off, make some kinda hard beat. High, funky beat. Whatever.

It might sound like music isnt that important, but i sware to god i would die if i didnt have music. I was just thinkin the other day. What in my life, DOESNT have to do with music? And i found out that theres nothin:

School: Gettin ready to drop out so i can move to NY wit my crew. (so i can make more money as a producer)

Work: I work so i can afford new equipment and pay for gas so i can pick people up and bring 'em to the studio.

Home: Theres nothing in my room that isnt equipment, i use my bed to sleep and to lay down and watch MusicChoice on my TV. So my bed is necessary, but the tv has to do with music.

I dont really got that much shit at home so i can save space for my shit. Theres somethin about music that makes me wanna stick around instead of joinin the military.
PEACE

There's no one "point" to music, music has affected people in many ways though. Music has been here since the begining of mankind, the Western world has made it seem like music is only entertainment and meant only to entertain they have put a monetary value on music. In early African cultures music was functional it was an everyday part of life drums were even used for communication Music was part of most festivals and gatherings. For different cultures music has different values, when you look at any culture period one of the things that define the people is their art.

I think that music is about what is inside of you... a good friend told me (and I believe this, it's true) your music reflects what you feel when you lay it down, it happens every time I pull a session... if I sit down and try to make a hard sounding track when I am too happy, it doesn't work, it just sounds too happy in the end, or a bad ix of both. music can be about what you are at that very moment... self expression... I also think that for your feelings and the general time and effort you put into music to make people bounce and dance and shit can be a way of making money too, why not? you pour your blood sweat and tears into it an take the time to show your inner self to the world by what you have created.... my right hand would be worth millions to me, and my music is an extension of my emotions. you kno? did that make any sense?

lol

yeah I feel the love of music aspect boney bones talked bout.. I don't expect anything from making music though I'd be cool w/ making money from it like ID stated. Some of us have sacrificed alot just to do and make music and its a form of expression/art that if we didn't have we'd go crazy like Deuce said..overall music is an integral part of life 2 many of us like Helix proposed.. It seems although "art reflects life" to many people here...it's 2 bad that it isn't reflecting real life when you get into commercial music probably because its no longer music but product.

and Def you said there's no one "point" to music and its had different significance to varying cultures correct? I'm supposing that goes for individuals too eh? so why the hell you bashing my individual ideas about music, Jacka$$!!? I did this post to see where people are coming from and if there's any common theme to why we do music in this culture.
