best overall/ price excluded - waves bundle 4.0 or higher http://waves.com/ .....dope as hell trust me.. if you get the whole bundle it has everything u could ask for... the compressors are the best out there.....also very expensive

best value and overall best choice - t -racks http://www.t-racks.com/ .... works great ..easy as hell to use.. it can get clean or dirty too

u should do a thread search....i asked this question like month ago..i been experimrnting with lots of diffrent programs but these two hands down

On a pc I go for the Vintage warmer and DSPfx6.0, i've withdrawn myself from T-racks since I missed multiband compression within the proggy. Shame though, it's the only thing that would really top it off. But who knows, I've had both versions so far and if a 3.0 version comes out with the multiband who knows, you can never tell with them belgium dudes.

Another nice one TC|Works Spark, matrix chaining you plugs n a rather memory friendly matter and a good set of plugs.

This is a recording studio mastering house that does stuff for artists all over about 5 minutes from my house, I have been in there like 2 or three times they use nuendo a lot and just look at their list of mastered albums....they also use their own in house mastering editor something called Sadie??...
Waves is pretty prevalent in a lot of studios, I use that myself...

I'm a little familiar with the Sadie system BigD, from what I heard it's actually a pretty good Digital Audio Workstation. You can do recording and mastering on it, it's not so popular but from what I read it's just as good as anything else. Waves plugins are my favorite on the software side. Another plugin I recently found out about that was designed by the original engineers of the Neve consoles is http://www.sonalksis.com/ They started their own software company, check out the SV-517 Analog EQ plugin, it sounds fantastic adds a nice analog tone to your music. You can download a demo. Another mastering plugin I like is Freefilter it allows you to copy the EQ characteristics of one song and apply it to another, very useful. I saw someone say Nuendo, I LOVE that program, Nuendo 2.0 is the bomb hands down (in my opinion).
