What's going on fellas. I've been a hip hop head since before I could remember watching Breakin' 2 in theaters when it was released. I've been rapping/recording since I was 12 (I'm 30 now). I used to engineer in a studio for free time and messed around with production, but never did anything major. I got on the FL bandwagon early and did some alright original stuff and some straight samples (not a lot of chopping to them). One of my best friends went the Full Sail route and ended up getting on at a few major studios in Atlanta (CSC and Doppler), which led us to a lot of free studio time on some amazing gear. Driving back and forth to ATL from Kentucky is a rough haul for pre production and things so I recently decided I was going to put in a small studio setup at the house.
I'm currently running on a new 17" MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of Ram. Yesterday I picked up the MBox 2 Pro Factory bundle and the Korg PadKontrol. I've got an older Alesis keyboard that a friend left me to play with, but I'm not good with keys so I haven't really looked at it yet. I haven't really decided which program I'm going to do my production stuff in. I'm thinking Reason, but I'm struggling with the learning curve on all of them at the moment.
I primarily started out just wanting to record vocals and things, but I've really started to get a craving to get into more of the production side. I've been reading through these forums for a month now and there's a lot of really good producer's here and it looks to me like this is the place to be as far as a beat making community goes.
I'm probably going to have a ton of newbie type questions, so I'm hoping people don't get annoyed too quickly.
