If I spent the same amount of free time I DO have actually making beats and learning another instrument as I do looking for records ,i'd pretty much be a beast.

well damn i cant tell ya that.

I'd say balancing everything else Im doing, and still keepin' the music goin'. Im not completely lazy, its just my creative interests run everywhere whenever it wants to. When i dont feel like makin' a beat and I feel like doin' some otha off the wall shit and it goes on for like 3 weeks....then it is what it is. And right now, im not in that mode for beatmaking in particular. lol

Someone take a listen to a new beat I've made and tell me. And let me know what's my weakness.

Though samples are sometimes a challenge when it comes to filtering and mixing. With regards to basslines I'm always torn between 3 or 4 bassline takes. And i have way too many incomplete beats also.

My biggest weakness would have to be:

a) Trying to find time to make beats instead of ducking my girl and making excuses.

b) My very short attention span to dealing with figuring out my production tools. (Logic 8, Asr xpro, etc)

I'd say my mixing could be alot better and my basslines are terrible. I wish could make basslines like 5th sequence haha. Also sometimes i wont be able to make a beat till i find that one sample that works and sounds good, so i can spend time looking for something and then when i dont find it i cant do anything.

My Mixing to0 dont have the space or speakers i need to mix, cant pump speakers i got

You aint lying. I dont even have monitor speakers only a pair of Sony headphones that give me such a wack response when I produce.

I went to Samash last week and this real down to earth dude told me about these Sennheiser headphones that are great for producing on the road.

I'd have to go with the keys at the moment, as i have'nt been playing to long and i've been abit lazy on that side with putting the time in to learn the basics fully+, but i will soon do after i pick up some good books along with the patients needed.

Staying motivated... the cat really pushes me in my production is, holmz if it werent for that cat i would be lazy as hell..... most of the production i hear is just un-insipiring....

motivation is big. i agree wtih class here. nothing right n ow is inspiring me to stop what i was doing and start making a beat. i think that's why people branch out into different genres and try new stuff. inspiration/motivation is really lacking for me. plus i get distracted easily, too much counter-strike...

I feel ya. Sometimes you have to work with what you can until you get what you want. Thats how all of the great producers got their start:

1) Just Blaze: Started with a Casio keyboard and a dream
2) Havoc (From Mobb Deep): Started with a tape deck, pausing and stopping.

You'll be fine. Just keep grinding!! Cause I know I am!!!!
